I had both Dr. Iannace and Dr. Capella when I had mine on May 3rd, 2006. I weighed 425 lbs on surgery day and today at a year and a month out, I am down to 210 lbs. They are fabulous. Dr. Iannace does Lap surgeries also. My cousin just had hers done by him. What they do that other doctors don't do, is in addition to doing the bypass, they place a band around the new pouch to keep it from stretching, so that you don't gain the weight back in a couple of years, which is what happens to lots of patients. You can call their office to sit in on a free seminar that they have 2 times a month. Their web site is www.capellasurgery.com

Hello. Im Griselda. I had gastric bypass done by Dr. Rafael Capella he is in Ramsey, NJ. I lost 246 lbs. because he does a combo of the lap band and the RNY in which you lose more weight than usual, and so far my 2 sisters had it done excellent results one of them went from a size 24 to a size 8 and the other from a size 18 to a size 4. I went from being 411lbs to 168lb which was a size 32!! to a size 9, and I just had a tummy tuck on June 12 so Ill be smaller than that :). Dr Capella is a GREAT doctor his team is great and they work very hard to get people approved through insurance. I have recommended 10 people all of which had it done by him and ALL have FANTASTIC and AMAZING results.

A note to PLUM:
Yes, I had open surgery where my incision was from between my breasts to my belly buttton.
However my sister and many others that I've had go to Dr. Capella for their surgeries; have had "Laparoscopic Surgery" (three tiny holes along with a very tiny incision over the belly button - for him to check on things).
Now if he's changed things since, I "sit" corrected , otherwise I'm sure it's not just "open".
I could be wrong, then... it's happened once or twice before
At the Hackensack support group meeting, the bariatric nurse coordinator said that he does open exclusively, as that's what he's comfortable with. I suppose there can always be exceptions!
And, just for the record, I wasn't saying that was a BAD thing... just making a note
