Sorry, no sleeve here.. but I am sure someone will write back who knows more about it.  I just recently started hearing people talk about it, so I know there are some "locals" that will be able to help you.  Good luck with your journey.... Michelle

Thanks, Steph.  I think that he is the only one in the state. I'm going to get my PCP's referral and visit him next.

Hi JerseyGirl1969, Thought I would give you a couple of links that might aid in your research. The first is a list of Bariatric Surgeons in your state. You can scroll down the list to see who preforms the VSG procedure and see OH Member/Patient Reviews (perhaps PM a few members): http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/professionals/showd ocs-all.php?State=NJ and in case you haven't stumbled upon it we also have a VSG forum here on OH: http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/professionals/showd ocs-all.php?State=NJ Hope this helps, ~Michelle OH Member Services

NBW, the vertical sleeve is another type of surgery.  It leaves the shape of a "banana" in the stomach, restricting calories, but does not "replumb" like bypass.  It started off as a preliminary surgery to the Duodenal Switch and many found it worked as well as bypass for weight loss and was safe like the band, but non reversible and no foreign bodies int he body that could erode or slip.

CAN YOU HAVE THAT SURGERY IF YOU ALREADY HAVE THE BAND? HAS ANYONE EVERY DONE IT? THANKS BRIDGET   K.

Some I think switch from the band to the sleeve.  There's one woman on the sleeve board whose band eroded and she is opting for the sleeve, others, I think who want better weight loss than provided by the band.
