I made an appointment today(Friday) and I got an appointment for Monday.  I am nervous.  I have not been to a bariatric surgreon before and I wonder what is going to happen.   I will also be attending a seminar on 6/19 at Englewood hospital and I wonder what that is going to be like.   Any details would help me!  THANKS in advance! The first appt will be easy. They will weigh you and explain the procedures (to offer options.) They will probably tell you if you have to jump through hoops for your insurance company. The seminar will be very informative. You will see people that have had the surgery, and of course are sucess stories. I wouldn't be nervous yet, save that for surgery!! Good luck and I hope everything go smoothly.

Hi Keydi, Just wanted to wish you best of luck.  Soak up all the information you can.  This website is full of info, it helped me out tremendously !!  Are you from Hackensack?  Did you check out Advanced Laparoscopic Associates....they are right there.  I'm going toDr Trivedi.  The seminar was great...it's very encouraging to see others who have been so successful.   Regards,  Lo

I am in the process of moving.  But, yes I currently live in Hackensack.   I picked Dr Strain because he is in the inner network part of my health plan which is the cheapest.   10% out of pocket vs 20 %.    Keydi

Wow! They were able to schedule you for an appointment pretty quick. I live in south Jersey, and I went to the seminar on May 11, and set up an appointment right after the seminar, but their next available date was for June 22. I still have 21 more days to go before I'm seen. I was under the impression that you first need to go to the seminar and then set up an appointment to see the surgeon. You go, girl!!! Nereida

It depends on the practice.  My surgeon requires you to attend the seminar first.  At the seminar there is staff present so you can make all your appointments at the same time that evening.

Girl!!!! Is that all you have to tell us about your appointment? Give us details. What exactly happened? What did the doctor do/say? I'm asking because my appointment is coming up and I'm really excited.

First I went in and filled out the normal paperwork.  The nurse then took me in and weighted me and took my bp.  I then waited for the doctor.  Dr Strain came in and We talked about whether or not I qualified for the surgery which I did and I asked him my questions told him my goals in the future.  Such as pregnancy.    Since then I have had the courage to write my letters to my doctors for the medical necessity letters.  I also had spoken to tell one of my colleagues.  She actually helped me.  She encouraged me to check  out another ssurgeon.  Then tonight I went to the another surgeon's seminar and I acutual liked the surgeon I saw tonight better.  I have an appointment in about 1 1/2 weeks on the 25th of June with the new surgeon. Sorry I just needed to tell someone.   Keydi

Well, that's just fine. You go with the doctor that you feel more comfortable with. I feel comfortable with the doctor I'm hoping will do the surgery (if I'm eligible). He came highly recommended by one of my coleagues at work. She had a bypass done almost a year ago, and she looks absolutely fabulous. I went to his seminar and he knows his stuff. Keep us updated.
