looking for support

hi! i'm chris, and a technophobe/dummy! i live in brick, am having lap-band on 6/18, and am figuring this might be the board to reach out and look for friends and support... if this isn't the right place, could someone please point me in the right direction? this site is confusing, and i'm just looking to chat with others - no matter pre or post, lap or bypass, just want some friends on the journey... thanks so much! blessings, chris :0)

Hi Chris, You're in the right place.  If you go under "forums" at the top of the page, you can select which topic you're interested in.  There is a lap-band forum as well as a main message board for general support  & questions.  If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. My name is Michelle and I also live in Brick.  Welcome to the site and to the NJ board!  We are a great group of people here.

I would love to invite you to come out to our local support group held at Community Medical Center in Toms River this Friday, June 1'st.  We have our meeting from 7-9PM in Auditorium "A", and we have it the first Friday of each month. We also meet the third Monday of each month in Lakewood (did you come to our last meeting here?) at Kimball Medical Center, at the same time 7-9PM.  Both of these support groups are basically the same people, we just have two meetings so we can meet twice a month.  Our group is a "peer group".  It's all people who are considering surgery and have had a weight loss surgery, either lap band or gastric bypass.  We would love to have you join us Friday if you are free.  The group is open to everyone, it doesn't matter who your surgeon is, or where you are in your journey.

Happy to read your post.  Let's support each other.  I will be banded on June 06 and was just thinking that I could use some support also.

Have only been on the site since February and have yet to hit the chat every day level.  However, I find that when I do ask a question, there has been a flow of communication and willingness to help and be supportive.  So I do believe this is the right site for support. 

Now that my date is around the corner, I am feeling the need for support more than ever.

I live in East Windsor, which is not too too far from you.  Where are you having your surgery?  Do you have to go on a pre-op special diet?  How are you feeling?

I don't live that close to Brick, (Livingston), but I'm here for ya : ) I see that you enjoy musical perfomance.  Me too!  I just got home from singing some patriotic numbers in a quartet with some members of my women's acappella chorus.  What a blast!  Singing has kept me sane!! I'm going for my initial consult with a surgeon on Tuesday - so you are way ahead of me in this process.  But I'm here - and hopefully you'll be able to send some advice my way too! Jean 

Hi, Acappellamom...I live in West Orange and attend the St Barnabas support groups on the first wednesday of each month. They're really helpful and it's great to meet people who are further down the road than you are (I am). I had surgery in late March done by Dr. Nusbaum at St. B and so far, nooooo complaints! Hi,  there is a support group meeting on thursdays at community medical center in Toms River the meeting is at 7:00 to 9:00 pm every week the meeting is for people who are pre or post operative if free feel free to attend  if you have questions or just want to get info this is a good place to ask as we understand your feelings as we have already been through the process best wishes Laura
