TENTATIVE surgery date!
I'm so excited! I heard from my surgeon's office and they are scheduling my surgery for May 29. Of course, I have to wait for the insurance to approve it before I'm going to really relax, but I'm thrilled that it is finally so close.
I had actually wanted it the first week of June because my son has state Special Olympics the weekend of June 1-3, but if I put it off, I would have had to wait until June 21, which would be more of a problem for everyone else at work. This way, I may have to do less at Special Olympics (not quite so much walking around, for example, and making sure I don't tire out as much as I usually do), but it's perfect for my work schedule since that is the last week of finals and nothing is happening for a couple of weeks afterwards. The timing couldn't be better that way.
The only hard thing? Now I have to tell my family that I have an actual date, and last week my son's father was upset I was going through with it. I'm not looking foward to that. But my plan is to point out to him that either he can continue to be a jerk about it -- and I will just quit filling him in on what's going on -- or he can be supportive for my sake.
Today, I'm just going to celebrate, though. My liquid diet starts Monday.
good luck on the approval
where do i get info on the special olympics?? i've looked at their website but it doesn't offer enough info -- i want to know where to sign up kids/adults to participate -- i have staff willing to take people -- just don't know where to begin -- any info would be great
thanks

The particular event I was talking about is the State Competition for Track and Field, which is going to be the end of competition until next fall. Fall sports usually start in September with competitions in October sometime. My son actually does SO sports most of the year -- soccer in fall, bowling in the winter, and then track in the spring. This year, he is also in an instructional tennis program, so he's been a busy guy!
The state track event is great -- the athletes stay in dorms at TCNJ from Friday night through Sunday, with coaches as their chaperones and "buddies" as their escorts during the day going from event to event. When they aren't competing, they can explore the atheletes' village, which has all kinds of tents set up with everything from helpful exams like dentist checkups and eye exams to games and gifts. (My favorite is a button with my son's picture on it that he brought home one year.) And all if it is provided free of cost. It's definitely a GREAT program to be involved in.
I think I may be getting released from the hospital the same day as opening ceremonies, so I'm not sure I'll be able to do much, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed I can at least go and watch the Parade of the Athelets and the fireworks.
