Hello all i had the band put on March 28th of this year. Yesterday i went for my first fill 6 weeks out . The dr had a hard time finding the port that su**ed. He was way to far down to get it if you ask me. My question is shouldn't i feel some kind of restriction??? I feel nothing it's a bit discouraging. Jessie

Hi Jessie, Did the Dr. ever find the port?? Was it the surgeon that did your surgery, sometimes other Docs or technicians will have trouble finding the spot, I made sure it was my surgeon that did my first fill. I know it can be frustrating but for some lap-banders it takes 2 to 3 fills before feeling real restricition, or sometimes it takes about a week or two for the first fill to kick in, I know that sounds weird, but tis true....while your waiting for restriction try your best to make good choices and lots of protein because the protein will help you to feel fuller longer, dont drink with your meals and try to stay clear of the sweets, exercise is extremely important in jump starting your progress. The time will pass and before ou know it, you will be up to your 2nd or 3rd fill and on your way to finding that sweet spot. Dont get discouraged, just have patience. Blessings on your journey! Maria

Maria yes it was the surgeon i wouldn't let any other do the fill. I think he got the port but i can never be sure. I didn't know it can take a bit before you feel restriction. As of now i don't feel a thing and i think having to wait another 6 weeks for another fill is a bit long being as hungry as i am right now. I'm doing well in choosing the food i eat but i have to say the hunger i feel is not a good feeling. Jessie

Jessica, Maybe your surgeon will schedule a fill sooner than your appt. if you stress to him that you having a hard time with restriction. All surgeons are different, but I know some that have gotten their fills sooner because of the same reason. I really hope the restriction kicks in for you, once it does, you will definately know it! Another good idea might be to find a local support group to help get you through the emotional part of it, because what we have been through is not the easiest to deal with and it really helps to meet up with others going through the same thing or just to get support and care from understanding people. Good Luck and Blessings on your Journey! Maria

DEAR JESSIE    WHERE IN NJ DID YOU HAVE YOUR SURGERY.    DID THE SURGEON DO THE FILL UNDER X-RAY?    MY SURGEON HAS DONE MY FIRST FILL,  AND BEFORE STICKING ME HE NUMBS THE AREA, AND WATCHES IT UNDER X-RAY.   THAN HE SHOULD TELL YOU HOW MUCH IS IN THERE SO YOU CAN KEEP TRACK. IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU LEFT THERE NOT EVEN KNOWING IF YOU GOT A FILL OR NOT. YOU ARE NOT THAT TIGHT WITH THE FIRST FILL,  SOMETIMES IT TAKES TWO TO THREE TO FEEL FULL RESTRICTION.  BUT DO KEEP TRACK OF WHAT FILLS YOU HAD AND HOW MUCH WENT IN.   I'M SURE YOU SURGEON IS KEEPING TRACK. GOOD LUCK BRIDGET   K.
