I just signed up on this site this past week and have been looking at it for a few months now. The main reason I signed up is that I got a surgery date on May 16 and I am getting a little nervous about it as it approaches. Believe me the benefits far outweigh the risks but this is a change in my life that I am extremely nervous about, I am not so nervous about the actual surgery, that is out of my hands. The future lifestyle is more the nerve racking part for me. I just wanted to introduce myself. Thanks for reding this little blurb. Rob

hey rob welcome to our site. you are about to do a wonderful thing for yourself. i understand that you are nervous, but all will be well. where are u having surgery and with what doc??? as you say the surgery is not a big deal. the future will be wonderful!!!! as you start to lose you will feel so much better, and your health will improve all along. yes there will be some difficult days, but they are nothing compared to the long term benefits. in the beginning your eating will be different, but down the line most foods will be added back to your diet little by little. and the stuff you cant eat and shouldnt eat, you dont need anyway!!! i am 9 months out, i have lost 108 lbs, i feel and look great. i can eat most foods again, except for beef ( like steaks). my appetite is fine, and im loving life. please feel free to get in touch if you have any other questions. best of luck, jacki

Hi Rob: You are probably one of the few people who have a realistic idea of what this surgery is about. I applaud you on that. The pre-surgery stuff, as I am sure you know is probably the hardest part of the journey up to and including the surgery. As you say the surgery is not in your hands. The after life IS the hard part. Not because of restricions, but because it is the healthy life choice of eating that we, or at least I wasn't accustom to following. I am 10 months post op and have lost 150 lbs. I have been on a two month stall. The damn scale won't move. I know some of the things that I am doing wrong and working to correct them. It is hard. The first few weeks after surgery are rather easy. You are scared to death to eat anything for fear of dumping, or just plain getting sick. After that life starts to get back to normal and you have to make wise choices. I wish you luck on your surgery. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Take this recovery time to change your way of thinking and eating. You won't be sorry. Jeanne

Hi Rob, The support on this board is great and you will meet some pretty amazing people that have had great success with weight loss surgery, when I started out on here the profiles I read inspired me so much that I truly wanted to have surgery to reach my goals. For me, I have always been a spicy food, sweets and a bulk eater, and loving to cook big meals didn't help along with dining in the best restaurants. I have to tell you, that as soon as I had my surgery I was amazed at how my mind set changed and I no longer even wanted to eat the way I did, and nothing feels better than losing weight and knowing that after surgery it would be very very difficult to put weight back on. I feel it is the best thing I ever did for myself! I wish you all the best and lots of luck on your journey. I'm sure you will be happy with yourself in the end and healthier. Good Luck! Maria

Hey Rob, I had my surgery on April 3rd. So far I have lost around 45 lbs, which I think is pretty good. I started at 380 lbs. I too got kinda nervous a couple weeks before my surgery, but I just had to trust in God and my doctor. The surgery really sucked, but after 2 days it wasn't too bad. I had the RNY, you didn't say what kind of surgery you are having. The first 2 weeks were mentally hard, food obsession and all that, but it really eased up after I made the mental leap of accepting that this is my new life. I dig it now. I eat almost anything, but I do have a hard time eating on a regular schedule, because I don't feel hungry. I love not being hungry all the time. Very few people project positively, I know I rarely do, so I chose not to think about it, but when I did, I tried to think about me at 200lbs and the benefits of me being healthy. Good Luck! It's not that big a deal. Craig

Thank you all for the kind words. It is nice to hear from those that have undergone the same anxiety as I am feeling, makes it a little easier to accept. I will definitely be coming on here for support as the date looms. 16 days and counting. By the way, I am going for RNY at St Clares, Dover, NJ and my surgeon is Richard Pucci. I think some people have asked all that.

I'm new to the NJ list as well. I'm scheduled for my RNY on May 23 with Dr. Iqbal. I go for my oh-so-delightful Endoscopy this morning. I must be strange because I'm not having the anxiety and stuff. Maybe I've had a few too many big surgeries that the shock factor isn't there. And, for those of you having surgery this month, be sure to get over to the May 2007 forum. Everyone is terrific there. We're celebrating as each new day comes! Best wishes to you all! * Cyndi *
