Laureen, I had RNY gastric bypass 8/06 at Barix in Langhorne - Dr. Brader did my surgery. Jump over to the Pennsylvania board as several Barix patients & friends post there. You can get lots of useful information there. I loved Barix, my doctor & the staff. It's a great place and I would highly recommend. Wishing you the best! Ellen

Hi Ellen, Thanks so much for responding to my post here at ObesityHelp.com. I did, in fact, schedule an appointment for the Barix in Langhorne for May 25th and my best friend from New York is coming down to make the trip with me. In researching locally, they seem to be on par with Dr. Abkin's practice, I am hoping to be able to do the laprascopic surgery, so we'll just wait and see what they say. I may still go for a consult with Dr. Abkin, based on what people have said to me on here, but I still feel that since I basically have no family living down this way (though my friend said she would come and help me out the 1st week or two), should the need arise, 2 hours is a long way from here. . . hoping that I get to begin this journey in earnest by years end, though the sooner the better for me ;) Again, many thanks. . . Laureen

Hi, Lauren! I'm in Bellmawr - just off of the Black Horse Pike, and about 10 minutes from Center City Philly. I went to West Orange, though, and Dr. Michael Nusbaum. He was a phenomenal surgeon, has a great bedside manner, and has been very supportive when I've needed him. I have lost 134 pounds since August 1st, and would not hesitate a minute to recommend him. It's about an hour and a half from you, but even during a recent medical emergency (I had a small bowel obstruction), he offered to send an ambulance down here so I didn't have to worry about my husband driving up there (I ended up staying here at Virtua Voorhees). If you liked Dr. Abdkin, I would suggest that you not let the distance bother you too much. Your contact with your surgeon in terms of going in to the office is going to be fairly minimal, and when you consider that this is someone that you really are going to trust with your life, a 2 hour drive every 3 months, 6 months, or once a year is not going to be a big deal. Having said all of that, there are supposed to be some EXCELLENT surgeons now working out of Our Lady of Lourdes. I don't have a name, but perhaps you can contact the hospital and ask to be put in touch with one of their surgeons??

Laureen, Look into my surgical group, Dr. Louis Fares in Trenton. Between Dr. Fares, John the nutritionist and the rest of the staff I think you'll be happy. I sure am. RobinNJ

I used doctor Greenbaum in Willingboro. He is an excellent surgeon and good bedside manner. April 7 at 6pm he will be having a presentation at Lourdes hospital in Willingboro. Some of his patients will be speaking. I highly recommend him.

Dear laureen I would call west jersey hospital in voorhees. They have a group their that do a siminar that you sign up for, and you will meet both doctors, one is for RNY, and one is for lapband. I had lapband done on feb 12th. It was good to go to this, they also have a good support group called new beginnings, that we paid for, but it was in 6 payments and it is for life. I have my own personal nurse, I have a nut, and ther/ manged . We have support 3 thurs a months. Just go to the meeting and learn. I'm very sorry to hear about your cousin. I'm glad you are getting better. Good luck to you. Bridget k.
