Hi Everyone! It's been a while since I've posted or been to meetings. I have been in the hospital for depression 4 times in the last 2 months. Also my fiance decided he didn't want to be together anymore while I was in the hospital and so I had to move out of our apartment and back in with my parents. Then he decided that we would just not live together but continue to see each other. UGH! Anyway it's been a very stressful time. Also my dad is very sick. I am 4 1/2 months out and have lost 60 pounds. I seem to have hit a plateau. I am also experiencing a lot of hair loss. I have missed my last 2 surgeons appointments and am trying to get in to see the Dr and nutritionist within the next week or so but anyone have any suggestions in the meantime? Hopefully I will be able to make it to the Lakewood support group on Monday. I have no car right now so it is a little hard, I have to rely on my mother to drive me around. Anyway, Hope everyone is well. Take care, Kim

Dear Kim So sorry to hear about your extensive troubles. Just know that truthfully " This too shall pass" . I have been thru all that and more, and it always works out for the better. Stay strong, and stay connected to people who can help you. The depression can keep you buried under the covers in misery for months if you let it. I hope you are on good anti-depressants and have a good therapist. Loss of any kind can cause depression, and so can a chemical imbalance. Just know that many people go thru tough times, and come out the other side a much better person. And the old cliche is true...."everything happens for a reason". I am 8 weeks out and starting to loose my hair too. It's part of the process. I am getting my hair cut short if it gets any worse. Increasing protien and taking the vits and supplements will help somewhat.(biotin and zinc) ask your Dr. Do get to the meetings. And tell people you need a ride. I'm sure someone lives nearby and would be happy to give you a ride. And do take only one day at a time. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Hugs, Cissy

Kim- My heart is you. Congratulations on the 60 pound loss!!!!! Your plateau may just be your body adjusting, which is a good thing. Definitely get in to your surgeon and nutritionist as soon as you can. With regard to the hairloss, this is very normal. Just keep up with your protein, water, and supplements. I hear biotin works. A WLS patient that works at my surgeons office turned me onto PANTENE THICKENING SPRAY. This stuff ROCKS!!!! I used it religiously as my hair thinned out and felt so much better. Angela

Hi Kim, I'm so sorry to hear about your problems. Please keep a positive attitude and as time goes by things should work out for you. As far as the hair loss, don't fret, keep it short and before you know it your hair will grow in (fuller we hope). Hope to see you at the Lakewood meeting. Try to relax and go with the flow. Hugs, Connie

Kim~ You are certainly going through a lot of stuff at the same time. I am sorry for all of your troubles. My heart goes out to you. I have been in the depression rut myself and that is hard enough to deal with alone, much less problems with family at the same time. The hair loss, I have the same thing. Mine is currently falling out by the handfuls. For me it's as much the WLS as underactive thryroid though. I am back on the thyroid meds, but they haven't stopped the hair loss yet. Eat more protein, but also know that hair loss is very common for us. If you need a ride Monday, please let me know. I think a meeting is what you need right now You are in my prayers and thoughts.
