Hello Zandy~ Michelle Brennan here, I can't believe that Charlene remembered my struggle with Diet Pepsi! I do struggle too.... it's the hardest thing that I have had to give up since the surgery. I haven't totally given it up though. I know I should. I allow myself to have a few sips a day, if I am craving it. I NEVER have soda in the house, for the kids or myself. That is the first rule. So, I have to be out to get a drink of soda. The second rule is that the cup has to be full of ice and I allow it to sit for a while before I take a sip, allow it to "unfizz", get some of the bubbles/air out. Hopefully the cup full of ice dilutes the soda too? Take very small sips and give plenty of time in between.... For me, 2 or 3 sips satisfies my craving and I am good for a few more days. IF there is any way at all that you can stay away from soda, I would highly recommend it, it is not good for us. Good Luck, Michelle Brennan (pretend it's a diet pepsi!)

Zandy- I forgot to answer the question about WHEN you can take a sip of diet soda. I waited 6 months. I was afraid it would slow the healing pouch or damage incisions in there. Michelle Brennan

They told me that I had to stay away for at least 6 months. Tough thing to do for the original Diet Pepsi girl..... I missed it really, really bad for the first 2 months, now... not so much. I usually drink diet wylers pink lemonade or peach tea. PF Chang's has this amazing tea, I bought a tin on the internet and make iced tea out of it. Try the Wyler's lemonade, it's really good and I think better than Crystal light.

Hello, I was told that soda is an absolute no no. However, I did try it because I was truly addicted to diet pepsi and you know what??? I didn't like it so much. I had tried it at about 2 months out, it felt wierd going down and didn't taste that great. So I really avoid it now. I hated all the stuff in the beginning....water, crystal light whatever, but now I love crystal light iced tea and some of the other flavors. I have to work really hard and wait some time for my taste buds to change. Just be careful if you are too soon following the surgery, it can damage the healing process. Amy

Amy~ I see you used Dr. Borao, so maybe you go to his support group @ Monmouth Medical? I have a question for you. I have a friend (actually he is my husband's friend) who is in the hospital in ICU after his WLS surgery a few weeks ago. I am not even sure that he used Dr. Borao, but think he might have? I was told that he got a staph infection and is not allowed visitors, he is in critical condition. His first name is Joel, I don't want to post his last name on the internet. If you know anything about how he is doing, can you please drop me a note. My husband is very worried about him right now. Thanks. Sincerely, Michelle Brennan

Michelle, Yes I did use Dr. Borao but I don't go to the support meetings and unfortunately I don't know who Joel is. If he is in Monmouth Medical Center then he most likely used Dr. Borao as he is the only Bariatric Surgeon there. I am a nurse and know that a staph infection can be a very nasty thing to deal with, plus being in an ICU will automatically reduce visiting hours as well. Hopefully that is the reason why they are not allowing visitors. Dr. Borao has not lost a patient yet and I know that he is very attentive to people who are having complications. I know that first hand as I had some complications following my surgery last year. Good luck and I hope you hear some news soon. Amy
