surgery date set, please give me advice!
recieved surgery date today and it's set for May 8th. That's way sooner then I expected. I still don't know if insurance will even cover this. I just hope I'm doing the right thing. Does this really help you to feel full and eat less? or is it going to be like every other diet and I'll lose, just to gain it all back again. Please tell me the good, the bad, and the ugly. Thanks
Kimberly:
Everyone of us had feelings such as yours when we got this close to our surgery date.
In answer to your question, for quite some time you won't even be hungry. You might have to even remind yourself that its time to eat! Then as the months go by, you will feel slight hunger but most of that feeling will be "head hunger", not true stomach growling hunger. Your sense of fullness will derive from so little food, you and your family will be shocked. I promise you. You will also have to struggle with those small portions sometimes, trying to fit just "one more bite". You will be reminded quite unpleasantly when you do.
You will do wonderfully I'm sure.

Be thankful girlfriend!! It's the best decision you'll ever make!! I'm three weeks out and it went smooth...I was told I was approved after what seemed like months of testing, then given a date of 10days...ohmigosh..I was in a panic..so much to do, so little time...but I SCREAMED FROM ABSOLUTE JOY!! You will be fine...remember...a lot of us on this site have been there as well...feel free to write, you will see your own little cheering squad!! RAH RAH RAH!!
thanks for the support. How are you doing with the band? Have you lost any weight yet? I think i'm more nervous because I don't know if i'm approved or not. I won't find out until the end of april. I know what you mean about finding out, and then everything moving so quickly after that. What kind of tests did you have to go for. I've had my blood work done, and I'm going for my psych and nutritional evaluation on the 19th. Is there other tests too? thanks for the advice.
thanks. that's the information that i want to know! I know everyone is different, but I need to hear how I will not be that hungry. I'm hoping this is different then a diet. On a diet, you have to control the amount you eat, but the hunger, or the thought that your hungry doesn't go away. I just keep reading about how your band isn't filled right away so I wasn't sure if you would get the sense of fullness. If you don't mind me asking, how long did it take for you to recover? I have a wedding to go to the following weekend, and I'm not sure if i'll be able to go. thanks.
Kimberly~
Congratulations on getting your surgery date, that is very exciting! It is also a little scary, knowing that this is really scheduled to HAPPEN! You are totally normal being a little scared, it's all unknown territory, and it is a totally new way of life after your surgery.
I see you are having lap band, I had RNY, so I am sure it's different. I know it's different, I go to a support group and there are a few "banders" in the group-our experiences can be a little different at some points, but we are all losing weight.
I wanted to see if you are going to a support group? That is where you will actually get prepared the best. If you are not going to a local group, please do find one. The difference, the peace of mind........ that you will find with being with others who have had the same experience as you are going to have.
I belong to a group in Toms River and Lakewood. I know that is far for you. If you need help finding a closer group, please let me know and I will help you. There are so many groups out there, there is no need to go this alone
Sincerely,
Michelle Brennan
thanks for taking the time to give me great advice. I'm so ready for this to happen and i've jumped in with both feet. I have the pre op class on may 2nd, which i'm sure is different from the support group, but i'm hoping the class will answer my questions. I should ask my dr. if there is any support groups close by. I'll keep you posted. thanks
I didn't have lapband Kimberley, I had gastric bypass, so far I've lost 16lbs..I'm never hungry and feel great. The tests I had to get were, bloodwork, pulmonologist and breathing test (I'm asthmatic), cardiologist (echocardiogram and EKG), the pscyh. eval and a also saw a gastroenterologist had an endoscope...plus seeing the nutritionists at Dr. JB's office...I was busy for a while..but it was all worth it.
