VALTREX~Can I take it?

Hello Friends~ I woke up to a fever sore on my lip this morning, I have Valtrex pills the doctor gave me last winter for fever sores. I take it when a fever store starts developing, and it stops it before it gets worse. They are big pills... I am not sure if they are time released, but they are huge. Can I break it in half and take it, or should I not take it at all? I will call doctor later, but hoping someone might know now, I don't want this thing to get any bigger! Thanks. Michelle Brennan

Hi Michelle, I can tolerate it with no problems at all - not even cutting it in 1/2. I know they're huge pills. I recently had to take it because of some kind of viral reaction to some dental work - I had fever sores inside and outside my mouth. Dentist gave me some kind of paste for the inside and the doc gave me Valtrex. Said they have a new way of prescribing it - you take 2 in the am and 2 in the pm (nothing like choking them back, eh?) and that's it. I opted for the regular treatment because I wasn't sure how I would tolerate them. Turns out fine. If I need them again I will do the 2+2 thing. It didn't upset pouchie at all. Good luck. I hate those dang things. I had so many, I called my lips "movie star lips" or "angeline jolie lips" the docs thought that was hilarious. Oh, and aren't they a pretty shade of blue????? Kathy

Hey Kathy~ Thanks for replying. I called the doctor this morning and he said it was fine to take, and these are huge pills! He did tell me I could cut it in half if I wanted to, so I did. It worked fine, it didn't make me sick or anything. I look forward to waking up tomorrow and this thing being gone! Michelle Brennan
