My port has an INFECTION!

Bad news kids. I have some kind of infection on, in, or near my port. Its all red around it, swollen, and PAINFUL. It feels like someone punched me in my port. I have a fever. I called my surgeon to, going to see him in a few. If you don't hear from me it means I had to go back into the hospital which he said most likely I would. He might have to go back in and replace the port depending on the infection. Hopefully I'll just get some antibiotics. I'm so mad because I've been taking such good care of everything, I'm a nurse damn it! Well I'll keeps ya's posted the best I can. I really don't want surgery again

Oh Michele honey, good luck, I hope its not another surgery!! this sucks! How the hell does that happen? Your in my prayers today, please keep us posted.

Michele Is the doctor using sterile technique when accessing the port? they should be accessed the same way a subcutaneous cheast or arm port is accessed. If your going back into the hospital and if your at the PAD please make sure you have a nurse call me. I would love to come and visit you since I missed you post op. Lauretta Thompson

Very sorry to hear about the port possibly being infected. Let's hope the antibiotics will do the job and you won't have to go into surgery. Think positive! You are in my thoughts and I will say a prayer for you. Connie

Has anyone heard from Michele? I am guessing that she is in the hospital and had her port replaced? Michele-If you read this, when you read this, I hope you are feeling better by now. I am so sorry that you had to go through this all. Maybe they found a way to fix it that didn't require surgery? I am hoping that is the case. Please let us all know how you are doing. Hi! Michele I was just reading this about your infection. I too had an infection and was in the hospital for 7 days with it. My surgery was in feb. Doing better now. I am hoping you are too!!! Good luck bridget k.
