Hello everyone~ I am 13 days out of surgery. I am on a full diet and have had about 4-5 diet coke's. I have been reading that the carbonation in not good for the small pouch. I feel really bad and have vowed not to have another diet drink. I am still worried that I have caused damage to my pouch. Any advise would help. Thanks so much, Stacy~

HI Stacy I am not a lap band patient I have had the bypass WLS. HOWEVER, from my experience with the lap band patient patients who have had the lap band are NEVER to drink carbonated beverages. The rational is that the gas will inflate your stomach (pouch) stretching the band. Now I have not had this information validated by a physician however, it makes sense. The more your band stretches the more it will need to be tightened. Since your only 13 days post op I am not sure if your band was even tightened so I really don't believe you did any damage but I would not continue drinking those carbonated beverages. Lauretta

Stacy, Calm down, you did not cause any damage to your pouch, but don't drink any more soda. I haven't had any since my surgery. The reason is, carbonation fills your stomack up to much and you can't get your protein in...I've been drinking iced tea and water, water, water....You will get used to it, I promise...Good Luck

They also say that the carbonation can stretch your pouch out, but I doubt only 4-5 would do that so soon
