Need South Jersey Surgeon

So, I went back to my general surgeon today - the guy who did the surgery to repair my small bowel obstruction about 4 weeks ago. He has discharged me from his care, now that I am as healed as he can make me, but he said he STRONGLY recommended that I find a South Jersey surgeon who specializes in gastric bypass surgery. My doctor, Doctor Nusbaum, is in West Orange - about an hour and a half to 3 hours away, depending on turnpike traffic, from where I live (about 10 minutes from Philly). I LOVE LOVE LOVE Dr. Nusbaum, but the general surgeon said that if something ever happens like what happened with my bowel obstruction in the future, it's better for me to have someone locally who they can call that can help me. My first concern is that no surgeon down here will touch me now that I've had complications I don't know that to be a fact, but it seems like someone who takes me on down here is just asking for trouble without the benefit of the big surgical payday up front. Does anyone know anyone in my area that would be up to the challenge that is apparently me?

Anna, Being so close to Philadelphia have you considered Pennsylvania Hospital at 8th and Spruce or the U of P in West Philly. I had my surgery at Pennsylvania. The surgeon was excellent with his specialty being gasto problems. Go to the website for Pennsylvania Hospital. My surgeon was Alan Schuricht. The hospital care was very good. Good luck to you. OMG!!!! i didn't recognize your picture!! i was reading your reply to anna and didn't even notice the pic til i looked to see who posted it!! i can't wait to see the rest of you!! or the missing you i should say!! you make me cry i love ya!! oh and anna -- i recommend Matt Kirkland also!! great great aftercare -- and the support meetings are free and bariatrics is a small part of his practice -- he's a gastro-intestinal surgeon -- so he can do all belly/torso stuff good luck anna roberta we need to set up a sunday when we can all meet!!

Hi Anna, i would suggest seeing a doctor in the city as well. My surgery is scheduled for June 22nd at Pennsylvania Hospital with Dr. Matt Kirkland....his staff is wonderful and very helpful...I also looked into having the lapband procedure at Virtua West Jersey Hospital in Voorhees but i felt much more comfortable with Dr. Kirkland and his staff. Check out also Dr. Earl Noyan. He's in Hamilton, which is not that far from you. I just had a lap RNY on 3/23 and I highly recommend him. Good luck.

Dear anna, I don't know if you remember me, but I remember you when I first joined the board in oct.2006. You have an RNY surgeon out of west jersey voorhees. Just call west jersey hospital for the Dr. That does gastric bypass. His name start with a "b". I go to support in voorhees, with a lot of patients of his. I had Dr. Goldstein for lapband. Another group is "south jersey surgical" rt. 70 in cherry hill. They just had a WLS doctor join their group. I have used that group before with Dr. Andrews. They were very good. I had my gall bladder and veins fixed by them. Good luck, bridget k.
