Plastic surgery
I had RNY last May and am almost to goal. I have about another 20lbs to go. I went for a consult for plastic surgery for a tummy tuck and breast lift. Both were approved by my insurance as medically necessary. Yeah!!! My question is....has anyone had plastic surgery yet and if so, what was your experience with disability? Does NJ state disability cover this type of surgery? I know they won't cover cosmetic surgery because my sister had a breast lift in January and she was denied but I was hoping that they would cover it because it is medically necessary. I am scheduled to have the surgery in June but may put it off for a few more months just to be sure I get all the weight off and to save some money just in case disability doesn't pay. I would appreciate any input anyone has and what their experiences were. Thanks. I am getting a little anxious because I want to get it done and don't want to lose the insurance approval.
Hey Amy -- glad to hear things are going well for you. We miss you at the OCWLS meetings. In any case, check out my profile -- I have had all my plastics done. And, yes, I was able to collect NJ state disability (paid to my employer) while I was out without problem. The surgeon will need to fill out the forms after surgery, include surgical notes and stress reconstruction after massive weight loss, etc.
What surgeon are you using for your plastics?
Hugs,
Nannette
Nannette,
Thank you for your reply. I am concerned about the money of course. It would be a stress to lose out on the pay for my family, but I don't want to pass up the fact that insurance will cover it either. I thought NJ disability would cover it if it was documented as medically necessary but you never know. I miss the support group as well but it seems as if I am working every time you have it. I work right there at the hospital so if there is a chance that I could pop down for a half an hour I will. I really wanted to make the one that had the nutritionist there but couldn't. I am using Dr. Danikas in Eatontown for the plastics, he takes my insurance. He is in a group with two other doctors. He seems nice. My only decision is whether I should choose silicone implants or saline implants. I have heard the silicone is better but I have to pay out of pocket for that and the saline is cheaper. I will probably go with the silicone but am researching it further. Thanks for writing back.
Amy
