Anyone with Empire BC/BS EPO (not ppo or other)? Or Oxford? Dr. recommendation?
Hi Jenny....I was so disappointed one year ago when I was in the same position you're in. I had the Horizon EPO as well. Then I realized I'd have to do 6 months of supervised weight loss with an MD taking my vitals as well (which i hadn't done and which more plans seem to require) so I decided to do the 6 months and switch to a plan at open enrollment with an out of network option so that they would pay Dr. Nusbaum. Due to a few other things, I'm having my surgery on 3/27 with Dr. Nusbaum and I'm so glad i waited for him. If switching to a plan with an OON option is possible for you and your friend, it's something to consider.
Best of luck to you both!

Thanks Carroll, I'm REALLY Glad to hear that because that's where I'm headed! My friend found them and we are going to the seminar on wednesday! I'm glad to hear that you think they are awesome, that means a lot to me! Which doctor did your surgery? We'll probably use Dr. Bertha because he is available on my days off. Can I ask how long it took for you, from initial consult to surgery? I can't WAIT!!
I see you live in Bayonne, my husband's entire family is from Bayonne and I worked for Dr. Frezzo on Broadway (veterinarian) for years! It's a small world!

I do have the EMPIRE PPO. I went with Dr. Ballantyne @ Hackensack University Hospital.
The insurance company was GREAT - fast approval.
I would do an online search with Empire for surgeons and see who shows up as in your plan... that's what I did.
If you want any more specific info from me, please don't hesitate to email!

I have Empire BCBS EPO. It was a pain finding a doctor in network but once I found one, BCBS has been a pleasure to deal with. I just had to realize that I had to stay in-network completely. Many doctors are not accepting any in-network plans and preferred to work as an out of network providor, which does not work with the Empire EPO plan.
Good luck and let me know if I can help any.
