Dr. Nusbaum patients and liquid diets before surgery?

Hi...I'm having a RNY on 3/27 with Dr. Nusbaum. I'm reading about people going on liquid diets before surgery. Did anyone else here who may or may not have had their surgery done by Dr. Nusbaum go on a liquid diet beforehand? Is the purpose just to lose a bit of weight beforehand? And did you need the pain meds once you got home? I'm really excited but these questions are keeping me awake. :) Thanks!!

I had Dr. Nausbaum's partner Dr. Bilof for my surgeon and he didn't request a liquid diet. The day prior to surgery I could only drink liquids and needed to take an enema and an antibiotic. Carla

Thanks for responding. I have to do exactly the same thing as you did, Carla. Speaking of which, I have to remember to fill that rx for one antibiotic. My TO DO list is getting longer and longer. Ok gals, now a serious question that I hope you can help me with. Can I wear a bra in the hospital post op? Maybe if it's not an underwire? These girls are too big to be out unsupervised. :D And any post op advice is appreciated as well...not necessarily bra related. I'm SO glad I found this site. Thanks again!

You're so funny. I wore a bra post op - but I put it on to go home in, not to wander the hospital. I was only in two days, and spent those days in a hospital gown. I did the same thing Carla did - Dr. Nusbaum did my surgery. I had clear liquids and an antibiotic the day before, with the enema. Ewwww. I got a prescription for pain meds when I was discharged, and I filled it but never used it. I came off pain meds at around noon the day after my surgery, and didn't feel like I needed it. But do get the prescription filled in case you do need it. I've had 3 c-sections, and wasn't any more uncomfortable after this surgery than I was after those surgeries. Good luck to you. You picked an awesome practice to help get you started on the journey to Loserville

I would say get plenty of pillows for comfort and wear stretch pants so you don't have any clothes rubbing against your stomach. Hospitals can be so depressing. I wouldn't buy any protein shakes until after the surgery as you may not like what you have brought. If you buy from GNC you can return the unused protein for a refund. Carla

Hi, I had my surgery over 2 years ago. I did clear liquids the day before surgery, took an antibiotic and had to do a bowel prep with ducolax pills and phoso-soda. No enema. Thats all. His requirements may have changed since then. He's an excellent doc so do what he says and you should have very good results. Kathryn 285/129

Since pain is a very personal thing, no one knows how you will feel after your surgery. I can tell you from personal experience that I had no pain meds at all. Since Dr. Nusbaum anestetizes the inside of ea*****ision, I only had discomfort. It was amazing to say the least! I did not have to go on a liquid diet prior to the surgery either. Did you ask him or the staff why you had to do this? I only had to do the three step enema...the most disgusting thing I've ever done...it is true love people when your spouse will to that for you because you're too big and not flexible enough to do it yourself!!! Good luck and don't worry...Dr. Nusbaum is phenominal! Susan

I just had my surgery with Dr. Nusbaum in December and I only had to do the day before with the enema kit. Other than that nothing....it was great no issues what so ever I think the gas pain was worse than any other pains from the incisions...and the beds are SO not comfortable! Good Luck!
