Another newbie hoping to get this process started FAST!

Hello everyone! I just found this board as I started doing some research on the LAP band procedure. I'm 120 pounds overweight (at least) and I'm hoping to set up an appointment with the doctor as soon as possible to see about getting this whole thing started! I just had my second baby (a boy) on Feb 1 and I"m ready to get thin and healthy so I can be a fun mom for my boys! My best friend of 24 years is the one who told me about the procedure because she's doing it too, and we're hoping to do it together! I just wanted to introduce myself since I'll be lurking around, learning as much as I can before this happens. I'm SOOO unbelievably excited because I feel like finally, maybe getting healthy really IS a possibility - I had pretty much given up! I'll update when I have any exciting news but for now, I'll live vicariously through all of your successes!! Congratulations to all of you losing weight and here's three cheers for everyone on the board, getting healthy and strong!! Jenny

Welcome Jenny, Do as much research as possible and make sure you choose a surgeon who has a tremendous amount of experience regarding the lap band. I wish you the best of luck and hopefully one day you will be on the losing side. Carla

Hi Jenny! Welcome! The OH boards are a godsend! I see you live in Union County. I had RNY on 11/9 with Dr. Jean-Baptiste, Medical Director of the Bariatric Center at Muhlenberg! He is THE BEST! Such a wonderful bedside manner and a brilliant doctor. He has a comprensive practice with a nurse coordinator who also had wls 2 years ago, a nutritionist with years of experience, a bariatrician who is also a gastroenterologist and others. His support groups are well attended (3rd Thursday of each month) and open to all. He takes all insurance plans. His website is: www.obesitysurgery.md I would go in for a consultation...I researched many doctors and couldn't be more pleased with my decision to use Dr. JB! I am down 55 lbs and I feel wonderful. If you are interested in a patient based support group just started by myself and another wls patient, please come to the next meeting on April 7, 10:30am at Muhlenberg Hospital. Thanks, everyone, for your responses! This board is SUCH a friendly place! That's awesome and I'm so glad I found it! I was supposed to call today for our consultation appointments but my newborn was having NONE of it, and wouldn't let me put him down long enough to do anything let alone make a phone call!! :) I'll try again tomorrow! I'm going to call Dr. Nussbaum, who apparently works out of St. Barnabas Medical Center (I just had my baby there!) because my friend did a lot of research and liked what she heard/read about him, and I trust St. Barnabas. I guess once we meet with him, we can see if he's the one we'll go with. I also hope someone takes my insurance, I JUST switched on 3/1 to Empire BC/BS and I'm PRAYING that insurance won't be an issue! Now, I have to go and put a picture of me up next to my posts so you all know who you're talking to! :) Jenny
