Absolutely normal -- for some it is a sign that their pouch is nearly full or already is. Hang in - every day gets better. Nannette

Are you drinking your fluids slowly? I know sometimes if I drink too fast, I can burp like a sailor. carla

Christine~ The only time I have a problem is when I can't burp! Whenever something gets stuck, probably about 10 times since my surgery, I am in dire pain UNTIL I finally can burp.... I know when I am able to burp, the food is making it's way down. I consider a burp RELIEF! I guess one man's garbage is another man's treasure? Do you have foods get stuck at all? Just curious... Christine~ It could be that you are chewing well enough or eating too fast. I had a lot of gas pain the first few months after surgery, sometimes I would feel like I was getting a "gas attack." I went to Dr. Trivedi and talked about it at my 3 month appointment, he told me to concentrate on being a "nose breather". Take all my breaths in and out of my nose, he said I might have been a "mouth breather" and I was taking in too much air. The way that he put it, that helped me to remember what he had said was "your mouth is for eating, your nose is for breathing." And don't ever use a straw, in case no one had told you that... just thought I'd cover all my bases! Give that a try, it might just help Michelle Brennan

I've heard it said that taking in air causes burping. Chewing gum causes farting. So maybe you tend to eat with your mouth open or are gulping a bit. Maybe drinking a little fast. I don't know for sure. I can't say I'm sure of anything lately. Since I started taking in more carbs I've gained 8 pounds. I haven't had time to see a nutritionist, I started a new job and can't take off this soon.
