Hey everyone~ I don't know whats wrong with me today? I wanted this surgery so bad. I'm doing pretty well to, down 29lbs. But today was so rough. I just wanted to be "normal" I've been feelin pretty hungry the last few days, and I eat what I'm supposed to, and I'm fine. But I feel like I'm getting hungry again so fast. I hope this wasn't a mistake. I slipped and had some real ice cream tonight.. Only 2 spoonfuls but still I slipped. I'm so mad at myself for slipping, but at the same time I'm mad at myself for getting the surgery. Am I nuts? Michele

Hi Michele, What you are feeling is absolutely normal. The head hunger is the worse. Try drinking a protein shake or drink when you feel hungry. The protein will fill you up. Also don't forget your water. OUr hormones go wacky after surgery especially WLS. Hang in there you will get back on track. If it is possible, remove all temptations from your home until you are feeling more secure in your journey. Good Luck, Jeannne

Hi Michele, You'll be fine. The great thing about having this surgery is that it's all a learning process. Your gonna be fine. The hunger is probably more mental than anything else. Just drink all your fluids. Sometimes hunger is actually the body telling you it needs fluids, and once you drink, the hunger goes away. And although you had the ice cream, don't sweat it, but do try and make better food choices. When I want Ice Cream, Blue Bunny and Weigh****chers make great low sugard Ice creams. Feel free to contact me if you have any other questions that I can help with. Angel

Hello Michele, First, don't beat yourself up for giving into cravings as we all have done so one time or another. Secondly, no one said that the surgery was a mental cure. While we may have the physical part of our bodies surgically altered, it's all in the mind and it's a learning process. Just don't make it a habit of eating regular ice cream, especially when there are so many alternatives to choose from. Just pick yourself up and start anew. It's going to take some time to incorporate better eating habits and the last thing you will need to feel is the guilt. Stay focus and remember the reason why you had the surgery in the first place, as the end result will be worth it. Carla

Hey Michelle, congratulations on the 29 lbs loss...That is awesome..Do not get down on yourself for the little 2 spoonfuls of ice cream....The big thing is that you REALIZED that you slipped....Alot of people see that ice cream is so easy to get down and they continue...I was once told to Not to look at the lap band as a diet, just a tool to help you eat better and smaller portions.....So do not think that you made a mistake with the surgery...Wait til the next 29 lbs come off and then the next and next and so on....Take care Dave

Look at it as a victory - you ONLY had 2 spoonfuls of ice cream. Pre-op, you'd have eaten half the container, right? I know I would've. Look, you've given up something very dear to your heart, and done it cold-turkey with no hope of getting it back. Of COURSE you're upset with yourself. You have to concentrate on the long-term benefits and recognize that all the ice cream in the world is never going to taste as good as being thin will feel.

ack..miss the nurse picture..took me a minute to figure out who you were The dumps happen..the regrets happen.. As for the ice cream, what ****** you off more? Is it the two teaspoons of ice cream, or the fact you went back on somethign you resolved to do? Sort out the real reason you are annoyed with yourself and deal with that. Food is never a reason to be emotional.. food just is. Otherwise, sounds like you are kicking ass ;)

i hate my nursing picture lol, i look like a giant marshmellow in my graduation outfit, which was the rest of that pic. But anyway, I was really upset that I caved in and had the ice cream. And then I caught myself and I stopped which was good, but then I got upset because I can't have it anymore. But I'm over it. Thanks to the advice a few friends on here, I will be investing in Sugar free or sweetened with splenda ice cream. DOWN 30 By the way!!!!
