Salad?
Hi Michele,
I also had open RNY and was told by the Nut. not to do salad for 6 months. To rough on pouch. All nutrionist seem to have different guidelines. Ask your what he/she thinks. If you try it and it doesn't agree you will know.
Everything after the first few weeks of surgery is an experiment to re-introduce the normal foods back into your daily routine.
Good Luck.

Michele~
I was told 6 months also. The hardest lettuce to digest is the iceburg, so when you do try it, do the dark green, leafy lettuce first. I tried my first salad at 5 months out, and I chewed like crazy, it was fine. Whatever you do, don't eat raw celery! I haven't tried cucumbers yet either, I don't know if they are alright.

Michelle,
I had cucumbers at about 4 months out. I chewed and only had about 3 pieces. At about 7 months out I ate 5 slices of cucumber, 5 grape tomatoes and 20 grapes. Boy did I get sick. So everyone is different and sometimes one day something is fine and the next...
Congrats on the bikini. You go girl.

Hi - I'm 7 weeks post op and I was cleared for salad. DR. said try softer types lettuce first. I actually had romaine lettuce leaf w/ tomato slice and slice of deli turkey and rolled it up like a wrap. It went down no problems. I also had small house salad from my favorite italian restaurant w/ no problems. Everyone seems to be on different timetables i guess it is best to check w/ you doctor.
