My Surgery is next Thursday 03/08/07 RNY at Pennsylvania Hospital, Dr. Wernsing. Had pre-op meeting yesterday with Dr. and freaking out a little. I have a mesh in from a previous hernia surgery, which was caused by diverticulitus surgery prior to that. So this will be surgery number 3 in that area. The Dr. said he was going to try to do it from the sides laproscopicaly and if that doesn't look easy enough switch to a cut. That would mean cutting through the mesh and then sewing it back up. He also said he would take down abrasions and scar tissue from previous surgeries and hopefully not have to remove the mesh and replace it at a later time. Thus....freaking out. thanks for listening!

Mark, David is an excellent surgeon and you are in a great hospital. I had my surgery there with Alan Schuricht. I was supposed to go lap but they had to cut at the last minute. I will pray for you. See you on the losers bench. Jeanne

Mark~ Nerves are totally normal at this stage of the process. A lot of us women who have had the surgery also have had a few surgeries around the same area. I had an appecndectomy, 2 c-sections and then the gastric bypass, I am fine. Mine was able to be done without an incision, I just have *****ture wounds, and they look like freckles right now. My surgeon also removed a lot of excess scar tissue, I thought of it as an added bonus! Good luck next week, I will say a prayer for you. Michelle Brennan

I also have had a few abdominal surgeries. One C-section and two umbilical hernias. My second hernia also left mesh behind. My doctor said it would not interfere, but would reserve an open incision if needed. The surgery was two weeks ago and was laproscopic. The mesh did not get in the way at all. I feel great and I'm down 15 pounds so far. I do not have any reservations about recommending this procedure to those that need it. Any time that you have to go under general anesthesia can be a scary time, but try not to think about it too much. Try to picture yourself one year from now - lean, healthy, and happy!!
