Breast Lumps after WLS?

Hello Friends~ I have an issue and I'd love some feedback about breast tissue after weight loss surgery. Back in December my gyno found some cysts in my right breast. This was 4 months after gastric bypass surgery and about 70 pounds of weight loss. My breasts had been slightly "cysytic" before surgery. My mammograms were always negative, they never showed anything to be concerned about. After the office visit he sent me for a mammogram and ultra sound of my breasts. The tech took about 9 pictures of my right breast, 4 of my left. The doctor that reads the films at Brick Hospital, while you are there, told me the films were also negative, meaning my breasts, both my breasts, are fine. 5 minutes after that I went in for the ultra sound, that was also negative, nothing showed up. So happy right! Wrong. I get a phone call from my gyno that he wants to see me back in his office as soon as I can get there. I go in, he re-examines my breasts and tells me he knows there is something in there and he can't let it go with the mammo and ultra, he wants to dig deeper. So, now I am going to see a breast surgeon on March 19. Dr. Adams in Neptune. My friend who lost her breast to cancer is going with me, so I am not scared about the visit at all. He will probably want a biopsy, since the gyno is convinced something is there. And, by the way, the lumps are very evident, my husband and I both feel them, they are pretty surface... but most of my breast is, since the 90 pound weight loss! A whole 'nother talk show as they would say! Boobs are gone, it's official So, question to my WLS friends here, did anyone else have this happen after surgery? I told him I think it's just FAT trying to hang on somewhere.... but he is not convinced. I really do think that's what it is too.....at least I am praying that's what it is. What do you all think? And, my usual end of the "medical question post" PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not write back and tell me to see my doctor. As you can see, I have seen 2 doctors already and will see the third in just a few weeks. I am just looking for others people's experiences with this. Thanks friend Love, Michelle Brennan

Michelle, my buddy: I've had 3 breast surgeries. One because I had bleeding and the gyn said that it usually indicative of cancer even thought my mammo and ultrasound showed nothing. I went to a breast surgeon who went in to find a problem with the mild ducts, no cancer thank God but a nice smile scar on the underside of the breast. The following year, mammo on the other breast shows microcalcifications clustered which is indicative of cancer. I go to the breast surgeon and we have to have them out. No cancer thank God. The next year, mammo okay, gyno check okay but now I go to a breast surgeon everyear and she feels a large lump that did not show on the mammo or the ultrasound which I then found out was bad. A cyst or something like it would show on an ultrasound a bad lump doesn't so they hope something shows on the ultrasound. Okay now that large lump I never felt but now I did after it was pointed out to me. We get that out and thank God no cancer. Now I go to a breast surgeon everyear so when I went September, I tell her I had lap band surgery and she tells me that many times after bariatric surgery you will find lumps in your breast, don't get hysterical, do come to see me so I can make sure all is okay but it happens alot. I'm not sure if that is what you are having but it's possible. She is very good, she is in Wall on Route 138. Martha Schrieber. I pray all is okay with you. Call me if you want to talk. Donna

Donna~ Thanks so much for taking the time to write me back, in such detail. I appreciate it. I did call Dr. Schrieber, but she doesn't take my new insurance. I have Horizon BCBSNJ HMO direct access. She was highly recommended by one of my best friends who runs a support group for breast cancer survivors, she lost one of her breasts 8 years ago. I will be going to Dr. Adams, she has friends who love him also, and he takes my insurance I am hoping that these cysts are from the WLS, which I really feel in my heart they are. I just found the same type of "cyst" feeling things in my back, where there is a little bit of fat trying to hang on for dear life... so that made me feel much better! Thanks again for writing and take care of yourself Love, Michelle

Hey Michelle - can't offer much info about lumps in breast after WLS -- I've always had lots of cysts in my breasts, but no problems. However, there is a great breast surgeon right in Toms River. Her name is Barbara Schneider - 9 Hospital Drive - 732 244 2060. Good luck and keep us posted. Hugs, Nannette
