Hi Tina I've lived all of my life in many different counties/townships of South Jersey . It IS VERY expensive and I have a family of 6, I am 34. My husband and I want to head down south to NC because the cost of living in NJ is WAY too high. You could purchase 2 homes down south for the price you pay for one mediocre shack in NJ. It's over populated so they can pretty much charge you what they want in taxes and insurance. I have to say for a "nice" community you most likely have to go further away from the conveniences of being close to Philadelphia or New York and STILL the prices are high but maybe a bit more manageable depending on your income. Financially it could put a serious strain on your marriage unless you're making a really good salary then maybe not so bad. If you're thinking about being a stay at home mom (if you have/want children)....phew this could be a serious serious serious strain on your marriage because of the necessity of a two income household . BEST parts of NJ is quick access to NY and Philly and the Jersey Shore! . That's umm..that's pretty much all there is to the positive really. I can't WAIT to get out of here personally. People are rude more often than not! It's not EVERYONE but on somedays it can FEEL like it. I would do some more searching before taking a leap, NJ would be DEAD LAST on my list to start anew.

I've moved 20 times in 10 years, NY (Orange, Putnam, Suffolk, Nassau, Queens, and Kings County) PA (Montgomery, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Bucks County) and NJ (Passaic, Bergen, Merce and Ocean County). I absolutely love New Jersey, especially Ocean. It's the first time I've felt at home in YEARS!!!! I actually bought my first house to settle down. I'm 30, I find it no more expensive than PA and NY. My car insurance is actually cheaper than PA and NY. Gas prices are cheaper. Housing was cheaper. State income tax was cheaper. Good luck!

I moved here when I was 3.. I'll die here. Jersey is just one of those places. If folks here are a bit tense or short, it is because we live in the state that everyone else makes fun of. It gives us the right to have attitude.. I personally live in a wonderful community in Brick..which was named one of the top ten -safest- places to live in the US. So yea.. take that! I grew up in North Jersey, so I can say I have lived in every part of this state from tip to tail. Jersey is going to provide 'color'. You will be required to know your Exit and required to once and a while use the 'f word' (That would be 'flippin'...get your mind outta the trash ) You also will be required to be able to sing everything Bon Jovi, Bruce, Sinatra or Whitney Houston ever sang.. (all famous Jersey folk.) Sports? Make sure you know who Willie Wilson is, or Tony Sarragosa (who I wrestled against once in High School.. big boy then too.. ) Someone once said the best thing to come out of NJ was Route 80...to them I says youse can follow it if you feels that way. Obviously they never had Sal****er Taffy, or Boardwalk Fudge....or never got kissed under the pier as the tide was comming up. They also never lernt that there are free beaches down the shore... or skipped school to go to 6 flags... or got yelled at for returning dad's car full of sand when you were just supposed to be spending the night at Joeys house.. Ok, so some of this is tongue in cheek and half-serious.. but dang.. I love this state. You could live in worse places.

There are a LOT of things to think about with moving, as you well know...but, here are a few things to know about this area... 1) Long Branch is a REALLY nice place to live. It does have it's shady and high crime area, but it is a small area in this really nice 6 mile beach town. I have lived here for 23 years. 2) NJ is HORRIBLE with taxes (sales/property/income/etc.) 3) NJ is become more and more fast passed as more and more NYers move in. 4) We do have very good Dr.s and staffs that do WLSs. So there is a really good support staff. There are also great support groups in the state, one of which meets in Long Branch once a month. I recently moved to Keyport, NJ, about half an hour north of Long Branch, still in Monmouth County. My fiance and I have talked about moving to PA, or DE, to avoid the taxes, and the cost of houses in NJ, but I wouldn't trade my Monmouth County, Long Branch/Keyport life for the world. I love it here.
