Surgery in 5 days. My surgeon only told me to be on clear liquids Monday and Tuesday, but I *HAVE* to work Tuesday while suffering the bowel prep - so I'm trying to keep myself on "full liquids" today and tomorrow to make that easier. But, OMG, I'm SO hungry. Someone give me a suggestion how to get through the next four days!

I almost feel guilty that I don't have to do a pre-op diet! My suggestion, though, would be to keep the water or other liquids handy - they can help in keeping you feel full. Now that's not going to help with any head hunger, but it's something, at least. Just remember WHY you are doing this... keep your eyes on the GOAL! Wendy

hiya Randy, drink drink drink..... its not going to be easy..... but you will make it through.... i was soooo hungry up until they put me under.... but when i woke up... i was full! lol I also had to work the day before surgery and being on clear liquids...... "the bowel prep" was not that bad...... just keep reminding yourself why you are doing this..... take care.. and good luck.. Christine

the best of luck to you -- just keep drinking -- ya know that jello and brothy soups are considered clear liquids also i didn't have to do a bowel prep or a pre surgery diet at all -- guess i was one of the 'lucky ones' for that Roberta

Full liquids include creamed soups that are strained. Try some progresso or healthy choice creamed soups, beef base (much heartier than bouillon) lots of Sugar Free popsicles, sugar free puddings fit into that category and also protein shakes. You will be so proud of yourself when you finally get to bench.

Hello Randy~ I will tell you how I got through the week of Slim Fast I did before my surgery. I didn't have any "pre op" diet through my doctor, but decided after going to my support group for a few months before my surgery, that this would make my surgery and "new diet" after surgery, a bit easier. I think I mainly did it to shrink my liver, to make the surgery easier for the doctor and myself. I had heard and read stories about patients who had fatty livers and they had to have an open RNY, which I didn't want to have to resort to. (plus the fact that I had 2 c-sections within 15 months of each other and I knew there was lots of scar tissue that the surgeon would have to work through, I tend to over heal..) While I was doing the Slim Fast my mind played games with me. My mind kept telling me "you are allowed to eat now, maybe for the last time in a long time, eat everything in sight, go for it... no regrets, eat now and eat everything you can find"! But, my brain was telling me this was for my own good, even though it hurt. (Can you tell I have three kids by now?) I think doing the liquid diet for that week really prepared me to deal with the "head hunger" after surgery. It's habit to eat all the time, at least for me it was. So when I came home from the hospital and we had a Labor Day party here the next day, my head wanted to eat.. but my heart knew it would make me sick, and the voice had already been quieted a bit the week prior to that. I was the new boss, I wasn't eating because it's what I knew how to do. I wish you success with your liquid diet and blessings on your surgery day also!
