Oh my god!! I just went on my surgeons website to get info for someone and I saw that as of 2/8/07 they will no longer accept my insurance. What do I do? What about my follow ups? What if something happens to me and I need him. I can't pay for him out of pocket. I have heard so many stories about people moving and having to switch surgeons and that it was really hard to find a new one. Calm down, breath. Okay I'm better. Has this happened to anyone else and if it did, what did you do? I know I need to call my surgeons office and talk to them on Monday but in the meantime any help would be appreciated. Karen

What insurance do you have? I am using Dr. Bertha, Dr. Adkin's partner. I just looked at the site and did not see any notices like you are referring to.

I have Cigna. If you look at the main page all the way at the left hand bottom there is a category for latest insurance info. They are cancelling Cigna as of 2/8/07. Why wouldn't they contact there Cigna patients and let them know this and let them know what's going to happen in the future as far as our care. I can't wait till tomorrow to give them a call.

Yes I did end up seeing that letter. I am surprised they did not contact their patients with this insurance unless it is too cumbersome for them to figure out who they are. The office is usually very good with communication. Does your plan have out of network benefits? When I found out they would not take my Aetna policy I was fortunate in that I could switch to a policy with out of network benefits which they do accept. Good luck. I hope you get the answer you are looking for. I will be curious to hear what they say.

Esther, My insurance does not have out of network coverage and I can't switch insurance coverage until next Jan. I guess I'll just have to go to my PCP. They don't know much about bariatric surgery though. Karen

hi karen most follow ups can be done by your own PCP -- mostly after surgery it's only bloodwork anyways if you have no complications -- and it seems that you have been post op long enough that if you had a complication you would have had it already good luck roberta

Roberta, My PCP does not know much about Bariatric surgery so I'm a little worried about going there for follow up visits. This lady I work with was fine until 17 months outs then started having complications. So my point is I guess its never to late for complications. Thanks for your reply! Karen

Hi Karen I live in East Hanover, and am going for my first consult with Dr. Abkin on Thurs. Not sure if my insurance will qualify me. Were you happy with Abkin. How much have you lost since surgery? Ronnie
