anesthisa anyone with panic attacks?
Hi Jade, I'm pre-op too......my surgery date is February 6th....and I'm having trouble sleeping.....or thinking of anything else. I noticed your screenname was "scaredtodeath"....and my first thought was.....change that.......I think it's quite typical to be concerned about surgery and if you weren't anxious I would wonder if you had realistically thought the whole thing through...it is a big deal.....but there are so many wonderful people here to offer support...you will be fine. Change your screenname to something positive.....and keep your eye on the prize of a healthierlife after surgery. Susan
Jade,
This is normal feeling that you are experiencing. My sister felt the same way and when she had her gall bladder removed I thought she was going to go into cororery arrest. I loved the anesthisa experience. I had my first surgery about 4 years ago, I had a pannilectomy and you would think I would be terrified but I was so calm and really had a great surgerical team. When I went in for my GBS I had to make two trips to the operating room. The first to have a filter installed with a minimal amount of relaxer, they wanted me mostly awake for that and then the RNY which I had open. I was never afraid. I kinda of put it in God's hands, with what is meant to happen will. Try to think ahead of that moment. Like 6 months from now with you standing on a beach somewhere in a bikini.
I hope this helps you. Good luck to you.
Jeanne
Jade, I don't know if this will help, but I get panic attacks too. My surgery was 13 months ago; I DID wake up and I did NOT have a panic attack in the operating room, or even in the first weeks after surgery. You know, the majority of what we worry about never happens. Instead of focusing on your fear, try to trust in your surgeon's sharply honed skills and focus on the new lease on life that you are about to get. I wish you the best!
Hi Jade,
Its perfectly normal to feel that way. I was afraid that I would totally wig out in the pre-op room, but they made me so comfy and stayed with me, not scary at all.
You do know, the doc wouldn't be doing this if he thought you weren't gonna make it thru surgery...it would look bad on his record. If you passed all your pre-op tests, your okee dokee for surgery! And.......my anesthesiologist told me that being out cold is good because if something were to happen (by freak chance) when you are put out, it is easier for them to fix the problem. (being put out as opposed to just having local anesthesia)
Your gonna do great! When is your surgery??
