...I was shocked. Approval flew through. I gotta admit I am getting nervous as hell, though. I'm getting the bypass. My insurance won't cover the band, but to be honest, I need this. I have 2 kids under 5, and I want to be around for a long time with them. Wish me luck. BTW, can someone give me the post-op in a nutshell? Like, am I gonna be whacked out the first day, walking by day 2, etc? Thanks...
Hi - Congratulations on your surgery date - it's exciting and nerve wracking at the same time. Honestly - pre op is worst than post op - all the unknown stress.
Post op was quite easy..... surgery at 1pm - took 1hr and 15 min. I was in recovery for longer than surgery - waiting for a particular room. I was a little out of it the first night...... uncomfortable, but not in real pain. I wanted to get up and move around, but nurses wouldn't let me get up - doctor was not happy. I was up at moving by the next morning, cruising the halls and hanging out. Worst part was the leak test the do the next day..... yucko. After that it was onto liquids and trying to get fluids in by mouth. I had little to no pain and was in really good spirits. Even now, almost 3 weeks out everything has been great. I can eat anything as long as I puree it (protein and veggies/fruit - no pasta/rice). I went back to work after 9 days. All in all I have to say it has been nothing but a postive experience and I would recommend the surgery to anyone. i only hope that it all stays so good.
Best of luck with your surgery and hopefully it will be as easy as mine.
good luck james
you should be up and walking the first day -- both my husband and i had open RNY -- dr had his hands in us for 30 minutes each -- recovery room was about 3 hours -- then a little nappy -- and up and walking the floor -- morphine is a wonderful thing use preventive medication -- hit that button as soon as you wake up so that you don't 'wait' until you are in pain -- stop the pain before it stops you -- morphine drips will only give you a certain amount of medication per hour -- sometimes you will only get medication every 10 or 15 minutes -- depending on how they have it set -- and both of us were home in 2.5 days -- getting to sleep the first 2 nights was a little difficult -- took a perk for those nights -- then nothing after that -- had surgery on wednesday, home on friday, driving on monday -- was told i could drive as long as i wasn't taking any narcotics
