I had surgery on Nov 15, 06 -- i was down 10 lbs PREop. I have lost an additional 23 lbs since. I had one fill on 12-28-06. I havent lost a pound since! I am going for another fill Monday, the 29th...but has ANYONE experienced this? Am I expecting too much? I can eat....and NOT only a few ounces...but like a meal! Dr said I need more of a fill....I HOPE that does it. Im starting to doubt this...did I do the right thing?????

the first 8 weeks I was like a weight loosing machine- The last 3 weeks I have been stalled---1 pound up/1 pound down etc. I too have had 1 fill only and will be having my second in 2 weeks. Since I had my surgery very close to you (11/10) I think we are still in the loosing/learning curve. I go to a NUT and she has me eating small meals (about 3 ounces) but about 6 times a day. Even with all the eating I am only at 1300 calories....with my height and weight presently (6'2" 307) I should be loosing---More water more exercise I guess. I provide no answers---its the same ones I have--- Keep me posted and when I see my surgeon I will be sure to do the same!

The reason many doctors discourage the lapband is because of people's issues with food. Lapband is not as restrictive as RNY. With RNY you cannot eat large amounts of food and you have to keep your calories at about 700 per day. I chose RNY because I didn't want to have free reign to eat whatever I wanted and in larger portions.

Sheri is correct; lap band requires serious commitment to make it work - and most of us aren't able to produce that level of commitment to weight loss. If we were, we wouldn't have needed WLS in the first place. Sorry, but you've got to work a lot harder to make this successful.

Dear paulette, I too am having lapband surgery. You did not pick the wrong surgery, you are just adjusting to it. It is not like you had it before and know what to do. The same with RNY, not everyone can get it write away. I have a cousin who had RNY, and looks great lost 153 lbs. But now at a standstill, and not loosing. So it does take work with both surgeries. Their is no easy fix. At least after working hard on this, and if it happens that it is not getting any better, you can always have the band taken away and go for the RNY if you think you need it. But the RNY, have all the parts moved already, where do they go if theirs stop working. I know of two RNY's where their pouch became large and they could eat anything. Than they had to be strong, and get back to where they should be, and it is not like they could go for a fill to help them. So just focus, and let us know how you are doing, good luck! Bridget k.

Honey, you need a fill! I was banded 4/24/06, was very tight and did not get my first fill (1cc****il august, then WOO-HOO--I could not even get liquid protein shake down! It took a good 4 to 6 weeks before I could get back to solid foods. Yes, you definitely need a fill. They say if you can eat a whole chicken breast, you need a fill. I just got my second fill last week and it took about 8 days to be able to get down protein shake with water, not milk. I got only .5cc's and I get very restricted, they don't know why. Hey, it is working for me, I am down 80 lbs, 15 before surgery and 65lbs since. Now I am losing again. My weight loss had stopped and I even put on a couple of pounds over the holidays -- damn those Christmas cookies!! Good Luck Michele

My mom had lap band 11/20/06 and has been the exact same weight since 1/2/07 and had a fill right before then. She is going on 2/14 for another fill. She is very discouraged at the plateau, I mean a month and lost nothing. I think she has lost a few inches, which is great. She says she is waiting for me to catch up to her ( I had RNY on 11/17/06 and weighed more than her to begin with.. 16 more lbs, and I'll be caught up!! lol)
