New to this site, would welcome support and friends, I just got a date!
Hi everyone, I'm new to this site, its funny I went to sign up to join this site last night and got a message back that I was already a member since 2001 and I had forgotten I joined all those yrs ago, then I realized thats how many years Ive been thinking about WLS and after all the years of up and down dieting and researching WLS, Ive finally came to end of my rope and I am so soooooooo ready to have it done. Ive decided on the lap-band and now I am soooo excited to have it done! I'm 39yrs my BMI is very hight at 51 I also suffer with PCOS and extemely high Cholesterol, I have been heavy most of my adult life and Im ready to change! I met with Dr. Trevedi yesterday and got a surgery date of 3-23, Im estatic, but I hoping I get approved through BCBS and all is ok, Im working on my requirements. I would love to share stories and meet some friends for support while on this journey. Thanks all and I look forward to hearing from you.
Hi Maria, I'm also new to the site but not new to the idea of WLS. I actually went through the consults etc. in 2000 but was turned down for lacking co-morbities...and in the 6+ years since I've developed several. I decided in December that it was time and had a consult with Dr. Nusbaum at St. Barnabas....and I just got word today that I was approved (after whining this week that it was taking too long and I was losing hope)....my surgery is scheduled for February 6th and I am so so ready. It's an enormous help to go through this with supportive people and you will find them here. I certainly have. Best of luck to you. Susan
Maria,
Welcome. I had my surgery Sept. 14th, 2006 and it is the best decision I have ever made for myself in my life. I had met with a Dr. in 2002 and had basically been approved. My husband forbid me to have the surgery. Now if you knew me you would now that my husband does not make my decisions. That being said at the time I had no co-morbities. I also just felt it wasn't the right thing to do with small children unless I had some issues that were really effecting my health. Fast forward four years and I have lots of health problems and 50 more pounds. I was ready. I am so thankful that I waited because I LOVE MY LAP-BAND. I have my life back. More than any compliment I get being able to run up stairs is my highest achievement. Best of Luck and keep us posted, Donna
Hi Maria
Welcome to the site : ) Its a good bunch of folks here in NJ... have you checked out any support groups? This site is EXCELLENT and you can learn so much... I hope you will post * OFTEN * and tell us about your journey... write and ask lots of questions... NO QUESTION is stupid... period... the only stupid question is the unasked one.
Toms River and Lakewood both have excellent support groups, its worth your while to attend a support group that you feel comfortable with, and get to know people.... both for knowledge and information... but also for afterward.. in getting to know people and recovery from surgery you will be able to draw soooo much from others experiences.
Write and tell us more about yourself? Be encouraged.. its LIFECHANGING surgery : )
God Bless
Timmy Ray
