Re: Barix Clinics, Langhorne, PA.
As most of you know, my husband and I were going to have our surgery done there on a scheduled date of January 31st of this month. When my husband and i started this journey back in the end of June of 2006 He called up Barix and spoke to someone .. which at this time i will not name... this woman took our insurance info and told us she would call back when she found out if we were covered by our insurance. When we got a call back we were told CONGRATULATIONS....your insurance covers everything but your deductable.... we were like wow! great! time went by we got what we needed done and then right after we got our date... which was last Wednesday... I got a phone call stating if we wanted our surgery that we have to pay 8 grand or we cant have it. I went through the whole issue of i was not told this. I understand insurance and what it covers and to be honest we were misled. I asked about payment options she said that if anything we can put 5 grand down and then make payments on the rest! i said I am supposed to come up with 5 thousand in 3 weeks... this woman.... who will also remain anonymous.... stated to me that i should remortgage my home, take out a loan, do what we need to do! i felt that was totally inappropiate. My husband and i felt that we were led on... We are not the only people to have this done to. I think its an absolute shame. I had to call them back to have them call my insurance company to get them off my authorization for surgery. The same woman who told me to remortgage my home hung up on me while i was speaking to her. I really felt like i was going no where. I inturn called the corporate office and filed a complaint against the people i felt we needed to and also gave a recommendation to the ONE PERSON who did help us... and you know who you are.. thank you again.......My intention is not to bash Barix but to make people more aware. I know many of you have not had any issues at all.. but many have.... and i would really hate for anyone else to lose 6 months out of their lives chasing their tails like my husband and i did.....
Christine, we talked at the support group about this , but I am just putting out there that this also happened to me last summer( of 06) to the tune of 9 grand. Sounds just like my story, needless to say to anyone else reading this, I got another surgeon real quick and had my surgery on 7/26/06 at St. Barnabas in Livingston with Dr. Bilof. I would never reccomend the Barix clinic to anybody.
Christine,
I'm sorry this happened to you. I had WLS about 3 years ago there and I think they were 'up and coming' at that time....cherishing every patient. I don't even think my surgeon is there anymore. It sounds like now that they're bigger, they're caring an awful lot less.
I'm really sorry for your bad experience...and I wish you all the best.
Oh-and the first Dr I spoke to was Elliot Goodman...I always see his name there on the left side of this page. I also saw him on a show on TLC as an 'expert' in the field. I don't know where is is now, but when I saw him he was in Northern NJ.

Christine: I have heard so many horrible things about the Barix Clinic in Langhorne. That is such a shame that they did that. And that woman that told you to refinance...oh my goodness, she should be trained again or fired. That is very sad. But on a brighter note, Dr. JB is wonderful. He didnt do my surgery, but he is doing my follow-ups. Dr. JB is doing my husbands surgery. I met him for the first time last friday and I truly love him. He and his staff has a wonderful spirit about them. It is truly a blessed practice. Please know that it was not meant for you to get your surgery at the Barix Clinic. They actually did you and your husband a favor because now, you are in the best of care with Dr. JB.
May God continue to bless you on your journey. BTW, are you going to the support group meeting tomorrow night? I will be there and would love to meet you.
Grace & Peace

Hello, the same thing happened to me with a doctor in Ramsey.
Boy did I go threw a lot! I called my insurance explained situation and they have informed me not to give them a penny. The insurance company typed a letter stating my coverage and there would be no out of pocket expense up front. The surgery was covered, the assistant was covered I have great insurance.
I asked the insurance company for another doctor who was covered under my plan the gave me a Dr. Abkin in Morristown. WOW was I blown away by this guy!
I reviewed his web site, I had a consulation with him and because I already was pre-approved to have this surgery it was easy to transition to new doctor I took my approval code and they called my insurance and just change the doctor and hospital.
I check again with my insuarnce company doctor is covered, hospital is covered and the anesteologit group is covered. I needed nothing up-front!
I believe that this was ment to be.
I believe those things were said to you. This office in Ramsey did the same thing, I was told you will not see the doctor until you pay the $2000.
Out with the old in with the new.
What a difference, the way the staff treats you, you can tell the doctor is sincere,
this doctor requires you see him every 3 mnths and the other doctor was 1 year once and then every couple of years. The sad thing is that this docotr new what was going on and still refused to see me.
You remember everything happens for a reason and don't make your self crazed like I was. It will all work out and you will be able to say the same as me. When it hits you.
Wish you the best. Get on the phone with your insurance company. Get you approval code and find out who else your plan covers. Best Wishes.
ps: don't go with an old dinosaur who still uses the old method and *****fuses to have the best technology for a much speeder recovery.
cares You could no I didnot realize how bad the other doctors office was until I went to this office.
