Water Flavoring
Hi to all:
I am 7 months post-op and have question about the water. I have always been a big water drinker, but since my surgery I haven't been able to keep up. About three weeks ago I started to use the Crystal lites, etc in my waters and am now up to over 70 oz. per day.
My question is if there is anything that you guys know about that can be harmful in drinking this much "processed" flavoring.
Any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated.
I am not sure if I will be of much help to you, but my nutritionist recommends this and it is very good.

It is natural flavoring

My nut. has warned against drinking too much flavored water. She explained that when you drink flavored water or anything that is sweet it signals to the body that food is coming. Once the signal comes you become more hungry. I think it signals insulin which tricks the body into wanting food. I don't know all the technical stuff.
ross has only drank flavored water since 5/22/06 and he's still kicking and a while ago when we asked our Nut about it he said it was fine and don't go looking for green tea at the shop rite near me -- i got it all in the cabinets i hate plain water -- it has to be flavored
but everyone is different
take care

I worried about it too but truthfully I won't be able to get all the water in if I have to resort to drinking it plain. I add the water sensations or buy the nestle flavored water, both have splenda in it which is supposed to be better than aspartame that is in Cristal Lite. I find the water sensations very sweet so I can use one packet for 2-3 bottles of water. I am 10 weeks out and drinking flavored water has not slowed my weight loss or caused me to be hungrier. Keep things as "natural" as possible.
If you like Splenda, then the Water Sensations are very good, and claim to be "all natural," for whatever that's worth. Personally, I dislike Splenda intensely, and much prefer Crystal Light or the equivalent. I don't think there's any issue with using them, though I encourage you to try to get half your water in as plain water, and to limit your use of tea-type flavors ****d tea has tannins, and in large quantities can cause constipation). If you must use the iced tea, make sure it's decaffeinated!
