Anyone have BCBS of NJ cover lapband?

Posting for my friend who is a retired teacher with BCBS of NJ. He has medicare primary with the BSBS of NJ as secondary. Any info would be helpful. Thanks, Sandi

My husband and i have BCBS of NJ. They are covering our surgeries completely except for a $1,000.00 deductable for each of us. We are getting the RNY surgery though......Im sure if they cover RNY they have to cover Lapband as well....hope this info helps... take care and best of luck.... Christine

I have BCBS of NJ HMO, and they paid for my RNY surgery in full. I do understand that some insurances do not cover the lap band, so you will have to call and check on that with them. It also depends on what plan your friend has with BCBS NJ. Michelle Brennan

hi Sandi My husband has BC BS NJ Horizon and they covered the whole surgery except for a $300 co-pay the day of surgery and he had Open RNY You will have to check with the policy to see if they cover the Lapband -- not all insurance will cover the lapband yet good luck to your friend Roberta

Most folks have answered this already, but just to reiterate...call them up and ask them if the lapband is a covered benefit...They may not tell you the requirements to get it (they wouldn't tell me what my requirements were for RNY), but they will answer the 'covered benefit' question. As others have said...each plan is different so a call is really the answer. GOOD LUCK! Dawn
