Reccommendations on Lap-Band surgeons in NJ?

I am considering Lap-Band surgery if I can get my insurance to cover it. I have Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield Direct Access. Do I consult with the surgeon and have them try to pu**** through insurance?? Mary

Before you schedule a consultation, you should call your insurance company to make sure they cover weightloss surgery, and specifically, the lap band. Then you can see the surgeon. Most surgeon's offices are very knowledgeable about what each insurance company requires, and will help you gather everything needed. Best of luck!!

I have Horizon BCBS POS and had my surgery on 11/9. It was all covered with no out of pocket. My surgeon, Dr. Demevsar Jean-Baptiste got the approvals. You can check the Horizon website to see if he's listed. I assume he is because he takes almost all insurance. He does have a great relationship with Horizon and can probably get you approved if you qualify. His phone # is 908-336-4200. I would definitely schedule a consultation.

Hi Sheri, The phone number at the office is 908-226-4200. Most Horizon policies will cover the Lap-Band if the person meets the criteria but any prospective patient should call the 800 number on the back of their insurance card to make sure that their particular policy has no exclusions to bariatric surgery and to make sure that all types of surgery are covered. Wow, thanks everyone for the responses. I am looking at having a consultation with Dr. Jean-Baptiste and also Dr. Borao in Shrewsbury. These are my top 2 choices at the moment from what I have been reading about these surgeons. They seem to come highly recommended. :thumbsup:
