WHICH PROTEIN SHAKE HAS THE BEST TASTE????
That is a really personal decision since everyone's taste buds and likes and dislikes are different. Rather than drop a bundle on protein powder that I didn't like, I visited "Vitalady.com" -- and ordered several samples at $1.99 each. In that way I was able to pick and choose which ones I liked or hated without wasting money. Why don't you give that a try?

NAN - YOU LOOK GORGEOUS.
Bridget -
I use WorldWide Pure Protein pre-made protein shakes in a can. 35 g protein, 2 g carbs. It's more expensive per serving than powder but:
a) I honestly prefer the taste/texture (I do strawberry - ice cold, and roll it, do NOT shake it or you'll get lumps) and
b) I don't "cook" - I need something that's ready to go and travels without hassle.
They have them at Vitamin Shoppe, it's ~$25/case of 12 cans. I do their member thingy and they send me coupons pretty regularly for $10 of $50 so then I get 24 cans for $40 which is clearly a better deal - still not as cheap as powder. It's whey protein in them (so FYI that means it is lactose based.) I *did* send away to a bunch of internet shops for different powdered mixes but it just wasn't my preference. Even without coupons, paying $2 for a can, which can be a meal or the better part of a meal depending on where you are on the journey (for example I may do a shake and a veg salad), is not outrageous. My cafeteria at work charges $6 for a lunch.
Best of luck, happy 2007,
Jen
Hi Bridget,
ok well this is my input. I am doing medifast cause thats what my surgeon wants. Reason 1 is he knows what is in it, and thats what he wants his patients to be on for 2 weeks pre -op. you know, the main thing is to shrink the liver so during surgery he has enough room to work with out the big ole liver in his way. The liver is gigantic as it is in its normal size. For overweight people like us, its even bigger. They use a retractor to hold it out of the way during surgery . It literally lives right on top of the stomach itself. When he is done and removes the retractor, the liver slides right back over the stomach.
so Bridget DO ask your surgeon.........what does he want you to do.
Cissy
Hello cissy
I thank you for your post. I do understand now why they ask
for that kind. Maybe you could let me know how it goes down
and what you mix it with.
I while back in the post's, if you can go back to it. I posted
a web site that came from atlantic care hospital, in ac.
Where they filmed the whole operation, it was very good
to watch what was going to happen. You can prob. Bring
it up on your computer by typing into your browser
www.Atlanticcare.net or type in , atlantic care medical center in a.C.
New jersey.
It was done very good, and very good to see what was going to happen.
It showed the liver being moved, and what they use to hold it back.
My doctor doesn't ask us to do the two week thing, but does ask that
we loose 10 to 15lbs before surgery. So I asked him about doing it
and he has nothing against it. Just wanted me to do it three weeks
out for two weeks, so that I was just eating normal and drinking
normal the week before surgery. Wanted me to have enough liquids.
So that is why I was asking, thinking I would try it for 10 days.
I thank you again for your post. Still want to know where you got the
beautiful picture that your post with.
Happy new year to you,
bridget k.
Hiya Bridget
The advice from Cissy was excellent (below)... do what your surgeon recommends.. thats really simple but often overlooked advice : )
As far as preference... I use the Advant Edge or XXX kind sold at Walmart....the WHEY protein ( I bought the soy protein ONCE.... never again... its tastes like old socks !).
Jack and Marge M gave me a couple of containers of whey protein mix... also .. a different brand.. that I am using... for ME... as long as its ... vanilla.. strawberry.. or chocolate and WHEY protein mix... I mix it with skim fat free milk... and it works super.
What Cissy said is very key..... the diet and such before surgery is aimed partly at shrinking the Liver... my surgery was done laproscopically and in such they have to literally use a little paddle to **lift** the liver out of the way (its in front).
The liver stores fat... and the diet and liquid diet that a lot of surgeons utilize prior to surgery is designed to let the liver release and rid itself of a lot of the fats... and reduce in size. See.. they can only put just a certain amount of pressure on the liver when they lift it outta the way...
If the liver is too large it obstructs.. gets in the way and prevents the surgery in some ways.
Hope that helps
