So many questions. Where do I start?

My wife and I have been approved for gastric bypass surgery. I will be getting the RNY. My first question is, how long will I be out of commission? Though my job is basically a desk job, I still am required to be up and moving around quite a bit. A lot of people that I have talked to say that they take off at least 2 weeks as a precaution, but I am hoping to be back to work in about 5-7 days. Is this unrealistic?

hard to say everyone is different, i had a desk job and i was out a few weeks. you will have to judge on your own how u feel after the surgery. that being said, best of luck to you and your wife. its a great thing, soon you will be on the losing side, a nice place to be. hugs, jacki

Hi Bob, Unfortunately, there is no one answer for this question. I was out four weeks and I probably could have returned sooner than that, but I wanted to make sure that I was ready to go back to work. You should also keep in mind that things may not run smoothly during this healing process. While I haven't had any complications, you just never know and you really need to pay attention to your body. Best of Luck, Carla

I think 2-3 weeks is standard. You are going to be in a healing mode and learning a new way of eating. You will need that time to learn all about your new pouch and how to take care of it. You may be tired too. I think it depends on how much you need to lose and how you heal normally. I took 2 1/2 weeks off and was more than ready to return to work at my desk job! You definitely should be moving around as much as possible because that helps in the healing process too! I would ask your doctor what he thinks based on your history. Good luck with everything!
