Hello everybody. Im not really new here but i have posted a few times in a different forum. Really just lurked around while in the process of getting my surgery date. Well I finally got a date for surgery on Wednesday the 20th. And i have been so busy with my 2 kids and going to all the docs to get my clearances so i could get my surgery date before i lost my insurance coverage. Well anyway the point of this post is, being that i been so busy I havent really been able to get a good idea on what i need home as far as food and anything else that would be helpful for my recovery. When i went to the nurtionalist back in the summer she told me i would be on a puree/liquid diet. But i dont know what i should take to get in my 60 grams of protein aday, and really would like to know from people who actually have went through this already what kind of food suggestions they have tried that may work for me.... All replies are greatly appreciated. Thank you in advanced. P.S. I will be posting this on a few boards so if you see this more than once... Sorry

Tanya, I bought Carnation Instant breakfast sugar free (pre made) and its really good. I've been home since Friday and i am working myself up to 60 grams. I also purchase Whey from Cosco's I got that information from the chat boards. I havent used it yet. Hope this helps and good luck.

Your nutritionist should really be helping you with this. When you first get home you will be on clear liquids for 2 days (at least I was). Then you can have milk based liquids. I used carnation instant breakfast. You don't have to worry about protein grams till after you are one week post op. I ordered my protein powder online but not everyone likes it so you can try samples from bariatriceating or anywhey.com. You will not start purees till after your first week post op check up and the nutritionist should give you what you need. Why don't you call the office tomorrow and ask questions. My nutritionist visited me in the hospital and went over my instructions. Don't buy alot of anything as you may not like it. I made that mistake and now have lots of stuff I hate- it was a waste of $$$. Good luck!

Follow your doctors orders regarding post surgery food... But I was on clear liquids (beef broth.. chicken broth... water...apple juice...) for a week after my surgery.. then pureed foods... then protein drinks for five months. *shrug.. I was a bachelor and scared to death.... I dont recommend protein drinks for five months thats just what I did : P Sugar free popsickles are excellent.. not as a food source but as a way to feel some normalacy.... you will find you wont be HUNGRY... and that the food choices will slowly become habit..... I cant think its too late 117am.... but I will try to post back tomorrow with some more suggestions. I hope your surgery went well... if you want someone to call and talk to you my friend.. I have toll free long distance ...well unlimited long distance.. verizon... so let me know if I can be of any encouragement to you. Today is my two year anniversary.. I am down 255 pounds and still at two years losing about 5 pounds a month.. so trust me before you know it you will be looking back on the same. God Bless... and welcome to the New Jersey Board Nice to meet you TT : ) Merry Christmas Timmy Ray
