Lap band question
Hi everyone,
I was banded on August 31st and I need some help. I have a 4cc band and I have 2.2cc in it. I find that when I eat, I burp constantly. It seems to help me a great deal! Is this common? I also have a very hard time eating meats. I seem to eat ham ok but everything else kinda gets a stuck feeling. I don't know if I stop eating because I am full or just not enjoying the meal at all. I get migrains and I hate to throw up so with the band I really don't want to. I have thrown up once and that is enough. Please don't take this as whinning! I am happy with the loss I have had. I am happy with the inches I have lost! I am just curious if anyone else feels the same way and if I should have another fill! How many fills has everyone had or how much have they had? Thank you for reading my post. ~ Stamie
Hello,
I have the Vanguard Band, which holds 9cc, which is the biggest one and alot of men get. I only have 3 ccs in now, but go for my 2nd fill on Thursday the 14th. I find that when I eat too fast, I tend to burp alot, and I get the hiccups alot also....I think alot of the meats, other than ham, are some times dry and tend to get stuck easier...I try to moisten them upo with alot of gravy etc...I do not expierence the migrains or any other headaches and I have not thrown up yet from being sick (other than 1 time of getting meat stuck) and I do not look forward to it either....I am only down 35 pounds since the surgery 9/11/06...(was close to 40 but I just got back from a week vacation in Cancun, Mexico...need I say more)..LOL Good luck....Take care Dave T from Woolwich, NJ
David thank you for you reply. I went to my doctors today and he expained why I burp so much when I eat. Apparently I am taking in air and the burping helps with the pain and the air. I am going to start having any meat I eat with sauce. I tried steelhead trout with some sauce and it went down well with no burping. I was told 2.2 cc in my band is good. He will not touch my band until the weight loss slows down. I need to exercise more so I will try and get that in as well. I am just happy to hear there is a solution and I am doing well. It is hard not to compare yourself to others. I have to run my own race! ~ Stamie

Hi! Stamie,
how are you? I'm new on this board, and I have not had surgery yet.
I live in south jersey also. Where did you have your surgery done.?
What surgeon did it?
I'm going to voorhees, nj. Dr. Adam goldstein.
I might have it feb. 12th.
I just want you to know that you are now on the "new jersey"
site, and their are more gastric/bypass people than lapsters.
I did the same thing, and one day someone told me. First you hit
forum, drops down, than hit "lap band" than the screen will change
and go all the way to your left, a blue colum, and hit message board.
Than you will be on a "message board that are people from all over,
but they have all had lap band done or soon will be done.
I would love to have you on my friend list.
Best of luck, maybe I will see you on both boards. Thats what I do.
Thanks,
bridget k.
Hi Stamie,
I also have a 4 cc band...I have a 1 cc fill so far (next one is on 12/20..yay)....I notice if I over eat I burp too...totally common, it means we are eating too much. Sad thing is I have no restriction,.....I am hoping this 2nd cc is gonna be the ticket.
I don't think you need another fill......I think you are eating too much at this point. (like me) The burping is a way for our system to "push" the food down. I have only eaten "hard" meat once since surgery...its scary...I have been sticking to softer meats.
And don't worry, you are not whinning at all. Its a concern....I was too, and then I realized what it is. I haven't lost any weight since my last fill, I think I am in for a scolding when i get there on the 20th. But I need this fill. I have to really meal plan....I am in college full-time and have been eating on the fly...whatever I can grab at wawa...usually a bagel...I also need to get to the nutritionist, I am sure she can help.
Take care and good luck!
