How far out were you before you tried a protein bar? I'll be 7 weeks out Wednesday - I'm eager to try some - but nervous!

hi I would suggest you ask your nutricionist about this, 7 weeks is too soon, because of the texture, according the post op plan I was allowed protein bars after 4 months post op. Good luck Take care.

Michelle, I ate them as soon as I was able to eat 'real' food...but I agree: Ask your nutritionist. As a side note: The truth is I rarely found one I liked, and to this day protein bars make me feel bloated-I don't really enjoy them (well, most of them, anyway). I usually only carry them when I know I'm going to be away from home or on the road for a long time...I use them as meals when 'sit-down' meals aren't available. If I'm home or at work-somewhere where I can put a meal together-I'd rather eat that instead. Sandi

i forget when ross started eating them -- bu they sure do come in handy!! we can stop for dinner at walmart lolol he can grab a protein bar and both of us can grab a water haha in fact we did that on our way to Beesley Point today -- we buy the South Beach Cereal bars and Meal Replacement bars -- and other types of protein bars -- and of course if i ask him when he started to eat them he won't remember lol see ya in the AM roberta

My dietitian doesn't reccommend them at all. She says most of them have too many calories, and too much fat. My personal experience with them is that they don't taste very good and my feeling is that I eat too little food to actually consume food that I don't like. I also think 7 weeks out is way too soon, due to texture issues. I have been sensitive to sugar alchols too, and many of them contain them. I get bloating and cramps from them..Another reason I avoid protein bars. For a healthy take along meal, I usually eat low fat mozzerrella sticks, hard boiled eggs or yogurt. I hate cottage cheese, but that is a good convenience meal for those who like it. Good luck....and do check with your dietitian. Kelly

For myself..and remember..everyone is different..I didn't even try a protein bar until I was like 3 months out. If you want to try one now..take really small bites and chew.chew.chew! Good Luck to you.. Tracy

Hi Michelle: I was about 8 weeks out and I did the wafer kind. Watch the carb and sugar count and like someone else said chew, chew, chew. I found they help when I get hungry in work. Jeanne

I was on them or at least tried them at 3 weeks out after having the Lap Band. I really think they are a good emergency food, when out all day and NEED to put something in your stomach; but that is it for the Protein Bars-Too many calories and too much sugar;
