I had my approval in just over a week. No six month diet. Just good documentation of past weight loss attempts.

Joann~ I had surgery 12 weeks ago. I wrote my own letter and documented all my weight loss attempts for the past 25 years, starting at age 16, when I had 8 pounds I wanted to get rid of for prom! Makes me sick now, but I thought I was fat always, even at 130 pounds. Anyway, I just wrote a letter/list saying Weigh****chers 1981 and what happened on that... then Jenny Craig and the years that I did that... and what happened each time. Make sure you say that you lost weight and then gained it all back, the diets with prepared food got too expensive......just give about a paragraph for each attempt. It worked for me. Dr. Trivedi said that BCBS has gotten much stricter in the past few months though, make sure you do a good job with that letter. Good luck in your journey, Michelle Brennan

I believe the type of plan you have with BCBS makes a big difference. My wait was about a little over 2 weeks and I have a PPO. Julie

I do. I am going on 1 year and still no approval. The Dr's office just sent it for the third try last week. I had to go thru the 6 month diet & drugs as well. (Still no help). Good Luck.

I have POS, I was approved in about 2 days, nothing required except the psych and nut. evaluation and a letter of necessity from my surgeon! I am sure BCBS figured I was a no brainer with my diabetes and sleep apnea!

Hi JoAnn, My wife and I have BCBS NJPlus, we had our approval in 4 hours. It all depends on your doctors office, and your individual plan. Good luck.
