Crunch Time-- Need to go shopping
Hello everyone
Well its just about 9 days til I am on the losing side . I am in need of help with what to buy as far as liquids and such for my first couple of weeks and what liquids to avoid. I am so excited i can't wait. Thank you everyone for your support and encouragement, because if it was not for you I wouldn't have the courage to change my life around. With you as friends I am a better person all around..
Charlene
Hi Charlene,
The first few weeks after my surgery went like this...water,water,water..som chicken or beef broth...sugar free ice pops..and some more water,water,water..You really don't need to buy too much..maybe a can or two of chicken broth and some sugar free ice pops,,I don't know what I wouldn've done without the ice pops..they give you some flavor in your mouth other than jus****er...GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!!
Tracy
Hey Charlene - are we going to see you tonight at the Lakewood meeting? Hope so!
In any case, to answer your questions -- Avoid juices - too much natural sugar. Having said that, the Tropicana sugar free lemonade in plastic bottles is very good. If you like flavored water (I don't), it is also an option.
Have soups available like broths, lentil, pea, etc. Try to stay away from creamy ones and too chunky ones initially.
Of course, protein drinks will help too.
Hugs,
Nannette
5 days to go Charlene!!!!! Getting nervous or just plain excited??
At GNC in Manahawkin, they sell Isopure....clear liquid in flavors....drink that your first few days....they are 40 grams each bottle....so just drink half at a time....you know, half in the am (no guzzling) and half in the pm.
AND ....take your vitamins.....critical if you don't want your hair to fall out (its only temp---but still!!!)
Here are my phone numbers: home-296-5297 and cell-513-0492. When you are coherient enough...lol....call me to let me know how you made out....or have significant other call me.
You're gonna do great!!
Ewww so excited for you!
Take care,
Barb

Hey barb.
Did I read at one time that you drink "slim fast" for your protein.
I think you said it was 20 grams of pro.?? Let me know if I am wrong.
I have never drank "slim fast", but I thought that was a good tip.
I have heard others say that some protein drinks are not tasting
to good. Kinda scared me, untill I read about the slim fast.
Good luck, charlene, it sounds like you have a very good start.
I'm always watching how you are doing, because I'm trailing behind you,
and I'm always watching barb's post, she has great!!!! Advise.
Thank you both.
Take care
bridge
Hey Bridge,
Yes, Slim Fast...I keep it in the car. Its great on the go. And...lol.....keeps me from swinging into McDonalds...lol. 20 grams of protein is all you can absorb at a time...the rest gets peed out. (that is why I have said in the past to only drink half of the Isopure clear---its 40grams a bottle)
Slim Fast takes decent. I also like Spiru-Tein....good flavor....soy protein. Doesn't absorb as fast as whey....but omg...the flavors you can get!!!! (its insane!)
If you get Slim Fast....get the low carb one!!! You don't want to add too many carbs to your day..I found the low carb one at Rite-Aid. It says low-carb right on the outside of the box.
Also be careful about the protein shakes out there.....many of them are meant for body building. I have gotten in some serious arguements with people online (not at this site) before on the subject...but I am certified in Holistic Health, Personal Training (funny huh?) and Sports Nutrition...so I do know a little bit about what I am talking about...lol ;) There are some things we just should stay away from. Because When protein does absorb in the body fast (one hour) I did buy Designer Whey yesterday...haven't opened it yet. It has 2 more grams of fat than Spiru-tein...45 grams of cholesterol....spiru-tein has none. it has no fiber....where spiru-tein has 1 gram, it has 18 g protein where spiru-tein has 14g...but designer whey is better when it comes to carbs! So it depends on what you are looking for. Spiru-tein has higher carbs....but no fat, no cholesterol...which is what I look for. The critical thing is read labels...
Personally...I wouldn't drink Muscle Milk if they gave me a free lifetime supply and delivered it to my house! It has 348 calories...18 grams of fat...200 mg of sodium...and 12 grams of carbs....so not worth it to me.
I was reading on another site where these people had WLS and couldn't figure out why they weren't losing.....yeah they were doing Muscle Milk! 4 times a day....OMG 1384 calories just in protein drinks...not including their food intake.
Ugh!
Anyway....preaching is over...LOL.
Take care,
Barb
Charlene:
You are in such fabulous hands. Both Dr. Nusbaum & Dr. Bilof are the *best*!
