Hello Everyone!! I'm Jill from NJ. I was supposed to be banded 2 yrs ago and ran into serious health complications that prevented the surgury. Now I'm better and on my way to getting much better since I have a surgery date of 12/11.. yeah!! Was hoping the bandsters would offer me any advice, suggestions, and important things you've learned along the way that you may want to share with me. Thanks for your time. Looking forward to getting to know you!! Jill

Hello Jill. I am so happy that your health has improved and you are able to have surgery. I am a new bander. I have had my band for two months and lost 36 lbs. I did not have a pre-surgery diet so that was all weight loss since the band. I have been very happy with my decision to have the band. I do have to count everything I put in my mouth or I would overeat. My band is somewhat restricted after one fill. I don't have any PBing or Sliming so that is a plus. I can eat about a cup and a half of food and feel full. I never, ever have that true hunger anymore. My band keeps the edge off. That's all I can think of now. I am so happy for you. This procedure is going to change your life. Best of Luck, Donna Marie

Good luck on your upcoming banding! I have been banded a little over 1 year. I am a "slow" loser but that's ok. I had a port leak so my band was empty for 3 months and let's just say I took advantage of it! I had the port replaced about 8 weeks ago and just started working out again. Come on over to the Lap Band forums. Everyone is super nice and will definitely be there to support you. Just click on Forums, then Lap Band. Jenn Y. banded 11/3/05 Port Replaced 9/21/06

Hi Jill, I am being banded on 12/8. It took me a year to finally get this date. I am very excited and also a little nervous. Who is your surgeon? I go to support group on Thursday nights at the William Roher Health Fitness Center in Voorhees, NJ and find that very helpful. Good Luck! I will stay in touch and you do the same. Sue

All the Eating and Protein and the such will come in time. But as for the Hospital stay, at least for me; Chapstick (I was so so dry) and a Walkman/Mp3 player- it was so noisy on the ward I was on. If it were not for the Mp3 player I would not have slept at all.

I am a bandster!!! Take chapstick to the hosp with you, and slippers.....you will need to walk. I wouldn't take any other fancy things with you...no time, and too risky (theft!). Stay away from Cream of Wheat...it sticks. If any food does stick...drink hot tea or ho****er...it will dissolve and go down...just don't panic. Get a heating pad for the gas pains...don't bother with Gas-X or any of that...the gas they pump you with is not the kind you can pass. It will hurt when it goes up to your shoulders...but it will pass...have a loved one massage your shoulders...you'll be fine. Drink plenty of fluids......if you get dehydrated you'll be back in the hosp. Take your vitamins as directed...when you eat get your protein in first.....loss of protein causes loss of hair....trust me I know this first hand. I carry Slim Fast low carb drinks in my car.....20mg of protein each....but get the low carb version...don't want to have this backfire on you. Oh.......and you can only absorb 20 grams of protein at a time--the rest you pee out---so space out your intake. And try to get 60 grams of protein in a day. Be careful of "wet" foods....meatballs, dark tuna....they get heavier when moist...and could stick...but again...just calmly drink something hot...not cold...it will make it harder. Hmmmmmm......can't think of anything else....if you do, let me know. Good Luck!
