I am one month post-op, and I've lost 40 lbs so far, which is great. But, I lost all that weight in the first 2 1/2 weeks, and for 2 1/2 weeks now, I haven't lost anything. Is that normal? Also, I'm unable to keep anything down. I eat waaaay too fast, even when I think I'm eating slowly, and I throw up regularly. Do you all think I'm not losing because I'm not getting enough food? I mean I know this surgery is supposed to restrict intake, but does eating nothing slow down weight loss? I'd love some post-op successes to share some insight with me!!! Thanks! Ranessa

I have not yet had my surgery but know from losing weight that you need to have enough protein in your diet or your body will go into the "starvation mode: which tells your body you are not getting enough calories so it starts to store your calories because it doesn't know the next time it will get food. That's why it is so important to eat when you are dieting. This is truely weigh****ches to a T. I am sure once you are able to get enough calories consistanly, you will start loosing again Good luck!

oNE IF YOU CANT HOLD YOUR FOOD DOWN YOU NEED TO SEE YOUR DOCTOR, mY ROOMMATE COULDNT KEEP HER FOOD DOWN AND IT TURNED OUT TO BE SHE HAD A PIECE OF FOOD STUCK IN THE OPENNING TO HER NEW STOMACH. THE TINIEST PIECE KEPT HER FROM KEEPING HER FOOD DOWN SO THE DOCTOR TOOK THE SCOPE AND CHECKED AND PULLED IT OUT AS GROSS AS IT SOUNDS. 2 i HAD THIS PROBLEM OF NOT LOSSING WEIGHT AFTER MY SURGERY WHICH i AM ONLY OUT 11 WEEKS NOW, IN MY THIRD WEEK i WAS DOWN 26LBS AND THEN MY 4TH WEEK i GAINED 5 LBS SO MY DOCTOR AND NUTRICIANIST TOLD ME IF i DO NOT GET ENOUGH WATER iN I WILL START TO RETIAN WATER. SO YOU ARE NOT ALONE AND THIS SURGERY IS JUST AN AID TO THE WEIGHT LOSS PROCESS. SOME PEOPLE LOSE A LOT OF WEIGHT FAST AND SOME LOSS IT SLOWLY, PEOPLE THAT ARE VERY HEAVEY TEND TO LOSS ALOT OF WEIGHT QUICKLY. i STARTED GETTING UPSET THAT MY ROOMAMTE WAS LOSING SOOOOOO MUCH AND i GAINED, SHE IS DOWN 70LBS AND ME ONLY (BUT i SAY ONLY ITH PRIDE) 53LBS so you see everyone is different and you might have a week were you didnt loss and then have a great lossing week just hang in there, but do go to your doctor if your not holding down your foods. kelli

Eating nothing absolutely slows your weight loss! You have to keep up your protein intake and your fluid intake. If you are eating too fast, I have a few tricks you can try. They aren't all polite if you are eating in company, but they can help. First, use baby utensils. I happen to have an 18 month old, so finding small sized utensils was easy for me - they were in the kitchen! But in the beginning, it really helped me to keep track of how big a bite I was taking. Take a bite of something, and then walk around and do something else. You can't do this if you are at a meeting or maybe not at Thanksgiving, but I found in the beginning that if I moved away from the table between bites and did something else, I wasn't gulping down my food. Make sure you put your utensils down in between bites. Really, I have heard this my whole fat life, and never thought it did any good. Guess what? It does! Who knew?? It's always been my tendency to take a bite of something, then load the fork back up for the next bite. I don't do that anymore. Paint your fingernails while you eat. Yes, I have done it. Yes, several of my drinking glasses and utensils are now speckled with "British Red". But I would take a bite, and paint a nail. Take a bite, paint another nail. If you can stand the smell, it keeps you at a good pace. And if you are really throwing up regularly, call Dr. Nusbaum!! You might have something more going on than just fast eating.

You must eat 6 small meals a day to build your metabolism, you must slow down eating as not to overwhelm your new pouch, you must not drink liquids with your meals else you will flood your pouch. Speak to your nutritionist and your surgeon. I hit a 13 week plateau at 4 mos. out, however the weight has quickly been dropping since the start of week 14. One helpful thing was cottage cheese. This is a life altering surgery. You must play by the rules to have success. Don't blow this chance, give yourself an inspection and clear yourself from destructive behavior. I wish you all the best. I am currently 8 mos. out and have lost 125#. However I was stuck at 95# for 3 mos.

Hi Ranessa, Congrats on your 40 pounds. I stalled at 2 and a 1/2 weeks also, but yes it will pick up. I also remember not being able to keep much down for about 3 months post op. Thats what protein supplements are important. As always consult with your doctor, and see what they say. Aliya
