My first postop party, need to bring a wls friendly food
on Dec. 3rd, I am going to a house party. Many people do not know I had surgery, and since it will only be about 6 weeks out when the party comes, I want to make/bring a wls friendly food, that I will be able to enjoy, along with the others. I should be on the way to the soft foods by then, as I am just starting puree. If you can recommend an appetizer, side dish, or meal, that would be great. It's an afternoon party, so picky food will probably be the menu of choice, besides maybe pizza or sandwiches.
A couple of thoughts come to mind. My hubby had to come with me to a few not long after he had his and he was able to enjoy things like 7 layer dip. You can make it with the fat free beans( I even use vegtarian ones) and a light guaq and so on. He really enjoyed that. Or bring a great soup for every to enjoy. Since it is in the kinda of holiday season time you could do llike a pumpkin soup or something. Plus it is something that everyone will like. FYI if there is pizza and there isnothing more that you can eat my hubby did get away with just eating the cheese off of the pizza at a few of his guy friendly partys around that stage. I think the 7 layer dip would be a good option though. I am very interested what everyone else has to say. Good ideas too!! YAY!!! Best of luck to you!
Hi Michelle:
There are loads of recipes at the Gastric-Bypass Info Central. It is a Yahoo Group, so you would have to join (it is free). If you go to their files section and scroll down to recipes they have them catagorized accordingly.
Here are some of the appetizers that I saw, I haven't tried any of them.
Toasted Party Almond Spread
Hot Artichoke and Spinach Dip
Mozarella Marinara
Holiday Meatballs.
There are alot of recipes in there.
Happy Party.

my standard dish is sweet & sour meatballs in a crockpot. The crockpot ensures they are moist enough for me to eat and the sauce helps everything go down. I use sugar free grape jelly and a jar of chili sauce then i throw the meatballs on top of it in a crockpot. It's nutritious as a protein and tasty enough for a party. If you want to try them with brown gravy i get an envelope of whatever gravy mix i enjoy that day (usually brown w/mushrooms) and i make 3-5 envelopes depending on how many meatballs i'm making.
