My doctor had his own staff of psych and nut and it was about $500 for both. It ensured that they would write the letters properly and I would have constant access to them. ~Michelle

Dr. Nusbaum (Dr. Bilof's associate) did my surgery & neither my psych or my nutritionist appointments were covered by insurance. Some insurances *may* cover these, but it's certainly not unusual for them not to.

Hello Helen~ I have BCBS NJ Horizon HMO and they paid for everything. I only had to pay the co pay of $20 to my psych and nutritionist. I think I was very lucky that Horizon is so WLS friendly, they made the entire process so easy for me, if anyone is switiching insurances soon, I think they are a great choice! And NO, I don't work for them, I just praise them for being so good to me! As far as there being nothing wrong with you, don't we all have eating disorders? That is a mental health issue if I am not mistaken? Maybe approach them with that? Just a suggestion. Michelle Brennan

One of my clients is a psychiatrist. I made her write me a report. I remember sitting in her office saying, "Just say I'm sane, but fat." She wrote a wonderful report, and I got out of having to pay the psych that the surgeon wanted me to go to, hehe.
