I'd start by seeing who your insurance would cover. I did all this research on various local surgeons before I checked with my insurance and then found out insurance wouldn't cover ANY of them and had to start over with THEIR list.

How much weight do you need to lose? It's important because there are doctors that specialize in different procedures.

i also would check with my insurance company to see who they would cover we called a surgeon and were told that they accept both of our insurance --now we have a $600 bill for a consultation -- needless to say, we changed surgeons anyways now ya know what they can do with their $600 bill -- AFTER they said they accepted BC BS NJ Horizon how far are you willing to travel?? what insurance do you have?? maybe some of us have the same insurance -- throw your questions out there take care roberta

I have United Health Care PPO and I am willing to travel up to an hour in any direction from the Verona area.

I have the same healthcare (United Health Care PPO) and went with Dr. Abkin - he's in Florham Park and the surgery was done at Morristown Memorial Hospital... I definitely recommend looking into his services for your requirements! Good luck, - Carol

I called UHC and they said they cover 90%. Do I have to pay the other 10% up front? Did anyone else have their insurance not cover 100%?

I am using Dr. Bertha, Dr. Abkin's partner and they have an excellent reputation. I have mentioned his name to many of my doctors and friends in the medical field and the response is positive. They have a new patient seminar once a month.

Hey Carol! I had Dr. Abkin, too, and we are practically neighbors! When was your surgery? Hugs, Jersey

Hi, I had surgery in September 2005 .. just a little over a year ago. Visited the doctor for the one year checkup and everything's great! Am doing everything to make sure it stays that way, too. How's everything going with you insofar as weight loss and the surgery is concerned? Glad to hear we're in the same neck of the woods - Northern N.J. is a great place to live! Take care, Carol
