OPRAH on Monday about WLS

Hello Friends~ I was just checking in on the VA boards and came across this post. I hope Robin doesn't mind that I borrowed it to "share" with NJ.... but it sounds way too good not to watch! It's about women who have had WLS and got more than they expected. One woman is now a binge drinker, drinking more than 10 beers in a night. One woman is 200 pounds lighter and has now cheated on her husband (7 one night stands, 5 with complete strangers), and a celebrity will be telling her story, too (didn't say which celebrity - do you think it is Star Jones? ). I am anxious to see if Oprah tells a balanced story with some success storyies mixed in or if she just focuses on the negative. I am planning to tape it if I'm not able to watch it. Hi Michelle, I think the celebrity *may* be Sharon Osbourne (Ozzy's wife). There was a mention on "The View" that Sharon was having her lap band removed. That her weight has dropped so significantly that, quoting the show, "she's "something like a size 4 now." I was given a chance to write an essay to be on Oprah's show about my WLS but opted not to. After seeing Oprah's promo Friday I'm glad I didn't. I had a feeling that anyone with good experiences with WLS would be far outweighed by the negative ones. I hope Oprah proves me wrong and airs a balanced show. Malinda

I took a look at Oprah.com. The show titled "Suddenly Skinny" is airing on Tuesday. Monday is a show on Mom's around the world. Malinda

Thanks, I will set the VCR instead of TIVO so I can share the show with my family, if necessary! For those who are not around at 4pm the show is repeated at 7pm on channel 10.

Hello Malinda~ Thanks for updating me on that show being on Tuesday, Donna also sent me an e-mail this morning! It is TUESDAY..... I really want to see it, but I am hoping also that it's not too negative. I did hear about Sharon Osborne having her lap band removed, but they said it was because she has since had cancer and wants all "foreign objects" out of her body. I can't blame her for that. I think she may have had a few complications with her band also. I am hoping it's Star Jones, I really like her and miss seeing her on the VIEW. I love Rosie on the VIEW too, but miss Star Jones-there's no Christian perspective on there anymore, and I appreciated that in Star's later years on the show, she was outspoken about her beliefs and her God. I admired her for that. It was good hearing from you Malinda, is the ice cream shoppe closed now? Maybe we can meet one day for lunch when I am up that way....I would love to see you! Love, Michelle

Hi Michelle, it will be interesting to see who Oprah has on the show Tuesday. In the promo: "-- a celebrity comes forward--from fat to thin -- to rock bottom!", they had a shot of Oprah's mouth dropping when she saw the celebrity. It could very well be Star Jones. She has been out of the spotlight since an HGTV segment that aired in July. My thought of it being Sharon Osbourne is because both The View and Oprah are on ABC. They may have insight as to who will be on Oprah tomorrow. Barbara Walters and Rosie seemed to know a lot about Sharon. They also mentioned what you said about after having cancer Sharon wanted anything foreign out of her body. Also that Sharon felt she could now handle her food issues without her lap band. Nope, our ice cream shop isn't closed. The last day of the season will be either Dec. 10 or 17 depending on the weather. It would be great to meet for lunch sometime. Mondays and Tuesdays are my best days. Find a spot between Branchburg and Brick and I'm there! Malinda

Now I'm thinking its going to be Carnie Wilson as Oprah's celebrity on today's show. For a split second the promo showed the monitor. It read, "she's been called the poster child for ..." I've often heard that phrase used when talking about Carnie. Malinda
