Hi, my name is sandy and I'm about 3 weeks post op. My Dr. Is in north jersey and I have yet to find a support group in central jersey. My nutritionist has told me that taco bell's pinto and cheese cup is the perfect portion for a quickie meal in a pinch. Can any one suggest any other fast food options that work? Here's the hard part....I don't eat meat or chicken. Fish is o-k, but when you eliminate fried, that pretty much wipes out fast food seafood. Any suggestions will be appreciated!

Hi jacki, Veggi burgers are always an option because a lot of places have those, but taking off the bread is something I haven't ventured into yet so those are on hold for now. Lakewood is a bit far, but I've heard of a meeting in East Brunswick and that's very close. I need to investigate further. Thank you for your reply. Sandy

This is tough when it comes to finding meatless meals at fast food restaurants. I'm thinking may a veggie sandwich from Subway or maybe try some vegetable soups as well. While most restaurants are trying to become more healthier, when it comes to vegetarian selections, there isn't many options.

Hi Carla, I tried Subway once about a year ago and their veggie selections left me cold. My choices were lettuce, tomato, onions, olives and pickles. When I think of a veggie sandwich, I look for roasted peppers or squash and those kind of veggies weren't an option so I doubt I'd try that again. Thanks for the reply though. My husband and I spend a lot of time on the weekends on the road and I know that packing stuff to bring along is going to get old fast so I'm looking for any suggestions that might work. We're certainly not limited to fast food, but we won't want to always go formal just to find something healthy. Sandy

Make sure that you check with the restaurant that the food really is vegetarian. Many times I would go into a place and the vegetable soup was made with chicken stock or the beans had lard (animal fat) in it. If it's fast food and the order taker doesn't know, ask to speak to the manager. I don't know how strick a vegetarian you are, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Rachelle

Thanks rachelle, I usually do check contents because nothing grosses me out more than ordering something that I think is meatless and tasting the distinctive taste of bacon or ham. Sandy

I know there's a support group in Wayne. Not sure how far that is from you. I'm planning to go next month. I believe it's held the 2nd Tuesday of the month...or something like that. I have to keep an eye out for the post from Irene about the meeting. Rachelle

Hi Sandy, My name is Linda and while I can't help out with food choices ( I am only 2 weeks out from WSL!), I can help with your support meeting. We have a wonderful meeting every month at Mulhenberg Hospital in Plainfield. The next one is 10/19/2006 at 5:00pm. I would love for you to come. The meetings are very informative and we always have guests from the medical community with loads of information. I hope to see you there!!! Linda
