What's the Real Deal on Caffeine or Diet Soda?

My friend had the surgery and she now drinks coffee. I would imagine at first you would not want it. I know when I had my gall bladder problems I could easily live without coffee. I had my visit with my nutritionist the other day and she did not say no coffee. I only drink one cup a day so it is not a big issue. I am not a big soda drinker but from what I have heard it is not good for your pouch.

Great Question, Anna...you read my mind. NOT about the diet soda, I gave up soda 6 months before surgery and will not go back to it. The CAFFEINE issue is right on the tip of my tongue lately. I love a hot cup of coffee before or after the gym workout in the morning. I am 10 weeks post op and am going to wait until the 3 month visit to see if I can try coffee again. I have been drinking decaf herbal tea since the surgery with splenda in it. I have a question though... WHAT ARE YOU PUTTING IN THE COFFEE? I would love a cup of coffee (8oz) with sugarfree french vanilla creamer... is that okay? I was addicted to WAWA coffee before the surgery and put in the french vanilla creamer from WAWA.... that would be a no-no, I guess, cause it is full-fat creamer with sugar in it... unless I just try a "splash". I have not challenged my pouch at all - yet. I eat only healthy foods, no full-fat, no sugars, desserts, soda, etc. I do not want to get back into the coffee habit and regret it because of caloric intake due to the creamers. ShelleyAnne
